Job Description
Overview Founded in 1896, Cape Fear Country Club is the oldest private country club in North Carolina and proudly stands as one of the five founding clubs of the Carolinas Golf Association, established in 1905. Originally located near historic downtown Wilmington, the Club relocated to its present site in 1922, where legendary golf course architect Donald Ross was commissioned to design its championship golf course. Today, Cape Fear Country Club is a golf-first, family-focused community of approximately 900 members where tradition, camaraderie, and an unwavering commitment to an exceptional member experience shape the culture of the Club. Consistently recognized among the top golf courses in North Carolina, the Donald Ross design remains remarkably authentic. The course's iconic push-up greens and classic bunker complexes continue to define its character and were thoughtfully restored through a recent renovation led by acclaimed architect Andrew Green. Widely regarded as home to some of Donald Ross's finest green complexes, the course challenges players with exceptional variety, strategic nuance, and timeless design. The golf experience is complemented by outstanding practice facilities, including a state-of-the-art Golf Performance Center, expansive practice grounds, and a nine-hole Par 3 course. Beyond golf, members enjoy an inviting clubhouse, fitness center, swimming pool, and tennis facilities, creating a premier full-service club that honors its rich heritage while embracing the future. Cape Fear Country Club has a distinguished championship legacy, having hosted four Carolinas Amateur Championships and serving as the home of the PGA Tour's Azalea Open from 1949 through 1971. The Club's fairways have welcomed many of golf's greatest players, including Arnold Palmer, Bob Toski, Ben Hogan, Dave Marr, and Al Besselink. The incoming Assistant Golf Professional will join one of the Carolinas' most historic and respected clubs, working alongside a passionate membership that values excellence in every aspect of the golf experience. This position offers the unique opportunity to contribute to the continued success of a championship-caliber golf operation while becoming part of Cape Fear Country Club's enduring legacy.
