Job Description

Director of Experience and Belonging Job Summary The Director of Experience and Belonging will report tothe Associate AD - Belonging. The director will lead and supervise a number of student-employees. This position will provide strategicleadership and guidance in fostering an environment of belonging. They will lead out in building and sustaining community through innovativeevent execution; overseeing comprehensive data analysis to drive transformative change; and being an integral part of a collaborative team.

AD Belonging. Select guestspeakers and facilitators to conduct belonging educational programs Lead and execute belonging and leadership-related programs,events, and celebratory affairs Direct the servicing and advising minority student-athletes; specifically, those who identify asLGBTQ+, Same-sex attracted (SSA), ethnic/ racial minorities, international student-athletes, and religiously diverse student-athletes Identify and drive improvements in the belonging and experience of student-athletes, coaches, administrators, and staff Direct strategic research and assessment initiatives that advance department objectives Lead efforts to collect, analyze,interpret, and report department data to identify trends related to belonging Represent BYU Athletics and the Big 12 on committees,working groups, and NCAA-wide initiatives Represent BYU Athletics and the Big 12 at various conferences, forums, and summits suchas the NCAA Inclusion Forum, the Athlete Activism Summit, the Black Student-Athlete Summit, N4A, and others Build strong,collaborative partnerships with sports teams, coaches, and other BYU departments to enhance community and belonging within Athletics Assist in overseeing the Athletics Belonging Council Leadership Development Lead LeadershipDevelopment for student-athletes Develop and implement leadership development programs that focus on and include aspects ofincreasing self-awareness (values, personal strengths/ weakness, communication styles, leadership styles, etc.), emotional intelligence andcommunication (emotional self-management, how to navigate crucial conversations, etc), motivation (intrinsic/ extrinsic, how to motivate/inspire others), culture creation and management, followership, peer-mentorship, and service leadership training. in-depth training andtransformational curriculum directed towards SAAC leaders, team captains, those aspiring to student-athlete leadership positions, and allother student-athletes Champion NCAA student-athlete leadership development opportunities including (but not limited to) the NCAAStudent-Athlete Leadership Forum, NCAA Career in Sports Forum, NCAA Post-Graduate Internship Program, and NCAA Athletes Using Their Power(A4) Coordinate completion of various student-athlete awards and scholarships applications including those sponsored by the NCAA,Big 12, and other organizations as assigned Lead and coordinate service initiatives for student-athletes and athleticdepartment including elementary school educational program outreach Lead and coordinate service trips and experiences forstudent-athletes SAAC Supervisor Oversee the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) ElevateSAAC engagement and participate, and ensure it aligns with Conference and
NCAA SAAC
guidelines (including governance and legislation) Ensure SAAC member selection is representative of each team Partner with coaches to advance SAAC initiatives andcoordinate member selection Oversee and manage SAAC activities and efforts including the Big 12 initiatives, Opening and ClosingSocials, Student Athlete Firesides, Thanksgiving, etc. Coordinate with SAAC to execute service initiatives including HalloweenTrunk or Treat, Honor Week, and Sub for Santa Campus Department Coordination Coordinate strategically andcollaborate with campus departments including Office of Belonging, Multicultural Student Services, Women's Services and Resources,International Student and Scholar Services, the Sorensen Center, and various university colleges Deliver effective programs tostudent-athletes regarding resources on campus and the following topics: adjusting to transitions, experience and belonging, andrelationship skills Student-Athlete Welfare Liaison and work closely with our sports medicineprofessionals, including our mental health staff, team trainers, and our strength & conditioning department to implement and executeprogramming specific to the mental, physical, emotional, and spiritual health of our student-athletes What Qualifies You toApply?
Minimum Required:
Bachelor's Degree 1 year experience in secondary or higher education,diversity and inclusion, college athletics, student development, public administration, or related field Understanding of NCAAleadership development programs, events, and networks (e.g., Career in Sports Forum, Emerging Leaders Seminar, etc.) Strong publicrelations skills Event Planning experience Advanced computer and office skills Willingness to comply with NCAAand Big 12 Conference policy Understand the nature and mission of Brigham Young University and the Church of Jesus Christ ofLatter-Day Saints and willingness to abide by the BYU Honor Code Basic knowledge of intercollegiate athletics Ability tointeract well with student-athletes, parents, donors, coaches, co-workers, administrators, and the public Professional appearanceand demeanor
Preferred:
Master's Degree 3+ years of experience in secondary or higher education,diversity and inclusion/ belonging, college athletics, student development, public administration, event planning or related field Ability and knowledge to interact with various BYU departments
