BASIC FUNCTION OF POSITION

Under the direction of an assigned Child Nutrition Manager, prepare and serve hot and cold menu items to students and staff at an assigned school site; participate in cooking and baking various food items.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES

Prepare and serve a variety of hot and cold menu items. Participate in cooking and baking a variety of food items such as main dishes, breads and desserts. Prepare fruits, vegetables, cereals and desserts; assemble various ingredients as assigned; package and wrap food items according to established procedures and portion control standards. Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.

MINIMUM ENTRANCE QUALIFICATIONS

Experience:

Six months of experience as a Child Nutrition Assistant I in ; or the equivalent experience in another quantity food preparation organization.

Education:

Persons with the experience, knowledge and abilities as stated are considered to have the necessary education.

JOB COMPETENCIES

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of:

Quantity food preparation including washing, cutting, and assembling food items and ingredients; Sanitation principles applicable to child nutrition and kitchen maintenance; Standard kitchen utensils and equipment.

Ability to:

Read, interpret and follow quantity cooking and baking instructions; Operate machines found in school cafeterias and food production areas; Understand and carry out oral and written directions; Count money and make change; Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with those contacted during the course of work; Perform some heavy manual labor.
