Early mornings with a 3:00 AM start Job Overview Wild Hare Cafe & Bakery is seeking a dependable and detail-oriented Morning Baker to join our bakery team. The Morning Baker is responsible for completing the daily morning bake-off and ensuring our pastry and bakery displays are fully prepared before the cafe opens at 7:00 AM. This position also assists with pastry production, preparation of quick breads, icings, fillings and toppings, finishing and packaging baked goods, and maintaining a clean and organized bakery. This is an early-morning production position, and reliable availability for a 3:00 AM start is required. Hours may range from approximately 30 to 40 hours per week depending on availability, production needs, seasonality, catering, markets, and special events. Overtime must be approved in advance. Responsibilities Complete the daily morning bake-off and have bakery displays ready before the 7:00 AM opening. Bake and finish pastries and other products according to Wild Hare recipes and quality standards. Prepare quick breads, icings, glazes, toppings, fillings, doughs, batters, and other bakery components as assigned. Accurately weigh, measure, mix, portion, and prepare ingredients according to established recipes. Monitor ovens, baking times, and temperatures to ensure products are baked properly and consistently. Finish and decorate baked goods using icings, glazes, toppings, and other components as required. Inspect finished products for appearance, freshness, consistency, and overall quality. Package and arrange baked goods for display, service, storage, or sale. Properly label, date, store, rotate, and organize ingredients and finished products. Follow daily production lists and communicate shortages, product issues, or production concerns to the Head Baker. Safely operate mixers, ovens, refrigeration equipment, knives, smallwares, and other commercial bakery equipment. Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace throughout the shift. Wash and properly store dishes, utensils, pans, and equipment used during production. Follow food safety, allergen, sanitation, and personal hygiene standards. Help minimize food waste by following recipes, portion standards, storage procedures, and production quantities. Assist with catering orders, markets, weekend specials, seasonal products, and other bakery projects as needed. Work cooperatively with bakery, kitchen, and front-of-house team members to ensure products are ready for service. Perform other bakery-related duties as assigned by the Head Baker or management. Qualifications At least 6 months of professional kitchen, bakery, pastry, or comparable food-production experience preferred . Reliable availability for 3:00 AM start times . Basic knowledge of baking techniques and bakery production. Ability to accurately measure, weigh, mix, and prepare ingredients according to recipes. Ability to follow written recipes, production lists, and verbal instructions. Familiarity with commercial kitchen equipment including mixers, ovens, knives, and other bakery tools. Basic understanding of food handling, sanitation, and food safety practices. Strong attention to detail and commitment to product quality and consistency. Ability to stay organized and manage multiple production tasks efficiently. Dependable, punctual, and capable of working independently during early-morning production. Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team. Physical Requirements Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Frequent bending, reaching, lifting, carrying, and repetitive hand movements. Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds unassisted . Ability to work around commercial ovens, hot surfaces, refrigeration, flour, food ingredients, and bakery equipment. Certifications ServSafe Food Handler and Massachusetts Allergen Awareness certifications are preferred. Employees may be required to complete applicable food safety training after hire.
Compensation Pay:
