Job Description
North Wind Bread Company is seeking a dependable and motivated Assistant Baker to join our production team. This position combines artisan bread production with pastry and general bakery work, making it ideal for someone who enjoys variety and wants to expand their skills across multiple areas of baking. The Assistant Baker will work alongside our baking team to prepare breads, pastries, desserts, and other baked goods while maintaining the quality and consistency our customers expect. We are looking for someone who works efficiently, pays close attention to detail, and takes pride in producing excellent food. Responsibilities Assist with mixing, dividing, shaping, proofing, scoring, and baking artisan breads Prepare doughs, batters, fillings, frostings, glazes, and other pastry components Follow recipes, production sheets, and established bakery procedures Scale and measure ingredients accurately Monitor proofing, baking times, temperatures, and finished-product quality Assist with daily production planning and organization Package, label, rotate, and properly store finished products and ingredients Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary workspace Wash equipment, tools, sheet pans, and production utensils as needed Follow food-safety, sanitation, and allergen-control procedures Communicate clearly with other team members to keep production running efficiently Help receive and organize bakery ingredients and supplies Assist with additional bakery projects and production needs as assigned Qualifications Previous professional bread, pastry, restaurant, or bakery experience preferred Culinary or baking education is helpful but not required Working knowledge of bread fermentation, dough handling, or pastry production is a plus Ability to follow recipes accurately and maintain consistent results Strong attention to detail and time-management skills Dependable, punctual, and comfortable working as part of a team Willingness to learn both bread and pastry production Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced kitchen environment Comfortable working early mornings, weekends, and holidays when scheduled Ability to stand for extended periods and repeatedly bend, reach, and lift Ability to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds What we're looking for The strongest candidate does not necessarily need to be an expert in both bread and pastry. We are open to someone with a solid foundation in one area who is enthusiastic about learning the other. Reliability, consistency, organization, and a genuine interest in baking are especially important to us.
