Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY
We are looking for an enthusiastic and talented baker to join the culinary crew at our location in the Pearl District, Portland. Our cafe focuses on serving tasty and convenient breakfast items all day: breakfast sandwiches, toasts, bowls, pastries, various quick breads, cookies, bars, and more! Candidates will demonstrate a passion for the delivery of consistently delicious and well-presented baked goods for our pastry case and menu. We have a special focus on hospitality and food quality in a team-driven, high-volume, and fast-paced cafe environment. The morning baker is responsible for working independently mixing doughs and batters, portioning and shaping, baking items, packaging, prepping items for the later crews, and keeping a clean and organized workspace in the kitchen. KEY RESPONSIBILITIESFood Quality and PreparationScratch Doughs & Batters
  • Prepare quick breads, pastries, cookies and bars for the day/week.
Portion, shape and store according to daily/weekly needs. Some yeasted dough handling as well.

Product Count, Bake Off and Pull
  • Manage ovens and bake off for daily pastry case.
Manage product count to ensure ongoing pars are available each day. Communicate clear needs for product pull to afternoon crew. Interest and participation in the ongoing development of seasonal baked goods to constantly hone your craft as a team member.

Demonstrate an unwavering enthusiasm for preparing and serving food in a fast paced, high-volume work environment. Participate in food education and ongoing food dialogue.

Willingness to take on any tasks necessary in the daily kitchen flow Physical Demands & Work EnvironmentAble to work early morning, typically 4 hour shifts, while standing or walking for extended periods of time.

Able to work autonomously and alone for the majority of the shift.

Able to work an early morning schedule (3am-7am)
  • weekdays, weekends, and holidays.
Able to grasp, lift and carry up to 50 pounds as needed.

Able to maneuver effectively around the kitchen, restaurant, office, and up/down stairs and step ladders.

RequirementsAt least 1-2 years of work or school experience baking in a commercial kitchen. Valid Oregon Food handlers card or ServSafe certification within 30 days of hireWillingness to work both week and weekend days with shifts typically scheduled between 3am and 7am. (Fixed schedule expected, with flexibility for conflicts, at least one weekend day will likely be part of the schedule)To be considered, a short cover letter must be included with your resume
