Create. Reminding people how good food can be by understanding our customer and guiding them to well-made coffee and food. Our goal is to guide our customers. This requires we 1) have expertise to act as a guide and 2) empathy enticing them to follow. We believe meaning and satisfaction in work is produced by the experience of someone else enjoying what you have made. This could be building a house, cutting flowers, or baking a loaf of bread. The point is, you experience connection between what your hands produce and someone's enjoyment of that product. In the corporate world, finding meaningful work is nearly impossible. Everything is disconnected—and it must be, if the goal is to build a machine where people are merely replaceable cogs. CliffMade (Oak Cliff Coffee Roasters, Davis Street Espresso, Five Mile, Candor Bread) is a place that emphasizes meaningful work. We lead and serve our customers. We put a lot of work into understanding what is good and how to accomplish it at some scale, so we can serve our customers as we should. We're not looking to make it just because we can sell it. We make coffee, chocolate, and bread at nationally award-winning levels. And while there is something simple about great food, nothing about this is easy. Making something great is just the start, because we must continue doing it again and again and again, all for the purpose of serving the neighborhood. You'll be on a team with attention and care as its foundation. We can train skill and knowledge, but we can't train you on how to care. You have to bring that yourself. This probably isn't the place for you if:
  • You don't love the kind of food we make.
  • You can't lift 50lb to your waist.
  • You can't spend 8-9 hours on your feet.
  • You don't consider how your physical appearance affects customer experience.
  • You don't appreciate feedback for the purpose of improving and the team improving.
  • Your attitude interferes with your ability to thrive on a team.
  • You're unwilling to put down a phone or remove an ear bud to give attention to work.
  • You believe in social media.
  • You're unwilling to do more than the bare minimum.
  • You're willing to be the weakest link.
  • You're unwilling to put effort, on your own time, into learning & understanding more about your craft.
  • You don't take responsibility for your own understanding and using phrases like, "No one told me," or "That's not my job.
"
