Job Description

Baker will be responsible for planning and preparation of Broad Porch cafe pastries and baked goods, as well as occasional preparation for kitchen menu items. This position requires the ability to work as a cohesive unit with owners and management, as well as co-workers. The position will also require the ability to aid in the cafe kitchen, infrequently, but when necessary. Applicants need to be knowledgeable and confident in following recipes and utilizing creative solutions for unforeseen issues. Self-motivation and ability to work well and quickly under pressure are requirements. The position will require the need to be able to work effectively both alone and with assistance. Role-specific essential job duties:
Advanced pastry and baked goods production Managing bakery and kitchen inventory alongside other bakery staff Understanding of and adjusting to the fluctuations of business Coordinating with management about weekly baking product schedule for pastry preparation and restocking Flexible working hours are expected (early morning work and weekend availability is required) Oversee cleaning and maintenance specific to the bakery Practice and enforce ServSafe (or equivalent) standards Organizing and execution of catering orders and events Understanding of the cafe kitchen needs with the ability to help when necessary Uphold quality standards Required Skills No degree or certification necessary, but should be able to aptly demonstrate skill set. Have a confident understanding of the hospitality industry and willingness to continue learning in self-guided environment.
  • Knife skills
  • Ability to follow recipes
  • Regulating baking temperatures and monitoring time
  • Measuring ingredients using weight and/or volume, sufficient scale knowledge and being able to translate in order to accommodate larger batches, etc.
  • Experience in varied dough and baked good preparations
  • Physically able to lift and work with various kitchen equipment and lift at least 50 lbs Has the ability to show skills and understanding of what is needed to not only perform but also excel in this position.
Maintain positive attitude and effective communication with both management and staff. Maintain personal hygiene, and exceptionally clean and organized work area.
