I. Summary of Position Contingent staff for Stanford Dining is responsible for performing a variety of food service duties such as serving food, cleaning and sanitizing equipment, sweeping and mopping floors, washing dishware, pots and pans, serving customers, cashiering and other duties as assigned by management in the residential dining halls or retail operations. Furthermore, contingency staff will be expected to demonstrate respectful behavior, excellent customer service skills, and report to work on time according to work schedule, maintain regular attendance and follow management and supervisory directions and assignments. In addition, to maintain satisfactory performance, staff will be expected to follow safe food handling and sanitation standards and procedures, attend mandatory unit meetings and training sessions and adhere to University, R DE, and Stanford Dining's work rules, policies and procedures, core values and principles covered in the casual/temporary staff handbook issued to each contingency staff at orientation. II. Essential Job Functions Performs a variety of food service duties. Duties include but are not limited to: washing pots and dishes and putting them away, cleaning the kitchen, serving lines and dining areas, sweeping, mopping, and vacuuming, serving food, swiping student meal cards, cash handling, stocking, food preparation, assisting with special events, and other duties that support the dining program. Provides excellent customer service. Follows safe food handling and sanitation standards according to California State Health Department health codes. Wash hands frequently to avoid cross contamination and after using the restrooms. Complies with workplace safety; OSHA standards; and emergency preparedness procedures Reports unsafe conditions to management Meets attendance standards by complying with posted work schedules, including following scheduled meal and rest breaks. Must maintain reasonable and reliable attendance Enters beginning and ending work times, and meal break, in time reporting system accurately Follows proper cash handling and payment system procedures in accordance with university policies and procedures. Reports all cash reconciliation discrepancies to management immediately. Attends required meetings as well as mandatory training sessions as directed by the unit manager or supervisor. Assists customers with specific dietary restrictions, and answers questions regarding food ingredients. Must be willing to work a flexible and varied schedule as assigned. Demonstrate respectful and professional behavior by maintaining a positive work environment and interactions with co-workers, management, customers, and visitors. Follows work directions assigned by supervisors and managers Follows work rules, policies, procedures, core values including compliance with Stanford Dining's dress code III. Qualifications Contingency staff must have a minimum of one year work experience in a large food service or commercial kitchen working a variety of food service duties. Must be familiar with a commercial food service environment working with kitchen equipment and tools as well as health and safety standards. Must have the ability to read and understand a level of English to comply with sanitation and safety procedures to prevent accidents and workplace injuries, to communicate well with students and other customers, and to understand, follow and respond to supervisory directions at all times. As an essential job function, workers are required to use cleaning and sanitizing chemicals. Complete and pass the food handler training course and examination within the first 30 days of employment. The organization will cover the associated costs, and the training will take place during regular work hours. IV.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to stand for prolonged periods, reach, lift, bend, kneel, stoop, climb, push and pull items. Physical agility critical to perform essential job functions. Lift up to 50 lbs pounds must have manual dexterity. Ability to work around hot equipment (stoves, grills, ovens).
