Lead Barista/Front of Store Sales Part time 16-18 hours a week
Compensation:

Description:
Love coffee? Love chocolate? Love gelato? How about all three!!! We are a small yet mighty team!!! The dynamics of our beautiful store combined with the great history of Chocolaterie Stam products of chocolate, gelato and coffee make us a dynamic environment. And who wouldn't want to spend their workday in our romantic European chocolate shop in beautiful downtown Glen Ellyn? First, we focused on our chocolates, then we focused on growing gelato sales in 2023 and now we're ready to increase our sales in the coffee market by adding the focus of a Lead Barista. Our Lead Barista will be the heart and soul of our coffee program—a passionate leader, a guardian of quality, and a mentor for our team. In addition to being Lead Barista, you must work store front counter shifts. At Chocolaterie Stam, it's about curating an exceptional guest experience from the moment they walk in the door. As Lead Barista, you will be the resident coffee expert, responsible for leading the team by example, growing coffee sales by ensuring every single beverage meets our exacting standards, and fostering a warm, welcoming, and efficient environment. You will be instrumental in working with the store manager to train staff, inventory management, menu innovation, and upholding the culture that makes our chocolate shop a beloved destination.
Who We Are:
Originating in Holland, the Stam family has been creating fine pastries and chocolates since 1816. Encouraged by his community's love of his chocolate, Jacobus Stam opened the first Chocolaterie Stam in 1913 to focus solely on his chocolate creations. Jacobus's grandson Ton moved to the United States in the 1990's and opened the first Chocolaterie Stam outside Holland. Today, Chocolaterie Stam serves the finest Dutch chocolate in 16 stores in the US and Holland. Our store is in the newly revitalized downtown Glen Ellyn, IL. Education/Skills required, but not limited to: Minimum HS grad or GED Preferred skills: Prior retail experience Square POS experience ServSafe certification (if not certified, must become certified within 6 months of employment) Prior management experience a plus Qualities included, but not limited to: Strong work ethic Dependable (follows through on tasks) Positive attitude to help maintain a positive work environment Self-motivated Team oriented Effective communicator - orally and written Store Front Responsibilities
  • Greet guests warmly; interact with them as if they are family

  • Serve specialty chocolates and provide chocolate expertise when interacting with guests
  • Adhere to recipes and presentations for food and beverage items
  • Maintain a clean and sanitized work station and store
  • Maintain outstanding store condition and merchandising standards
  • Follow all health and safety guidelines provided during onboarding/training
  • Must be positive, punctual and willing to learn
Lead Barista Responsibilities Beverage Quality Management :
Oversee the consistency and excellence of all coffee and other beverages, including calibrating espresso machines and grinders to precise specifications. Perform regular preventative maintenance and deep cleaning on all coffee equipment including the espresso machine, grinders and ice machine and trouble shoot minor technical issues to prevent downtime.
Team Leadership :
Lead the barista team by example, fostering a positive, collaborative work environment. Actively monitor daily sales performance and key performance indicators working with the team to implement upselling strategies and initiatives to achieve revenue targets. Support the Store Manager with administrative tasks such as reporting on waste, sales trends and staff performance metrics.
Training and Development :
Develop and implement comprehensive training programs for new and existing team members, covering espresso extraction, milk texturing, customer service, and brand standards. Conduct regular performance check-ins with the team providing constructive feedback and setting goals for improved performance.
Menu Innovation and Marketing :
Collaborate with store manager to develop and launch new seasonal drinks and menu items, including recipe testing. Contribute to the organizations social media channels by capturing and providing high-quality visual content of beverages, latte art and general café atmosphere.
Inventory and Supply Management :
Monitor and manage inventory for coffee beans, milk alternatives, syrups, and other supplies, placing orders, tracking stock, and minimizing waste. Foster strong relationships with key coffee suppliers, particularly coffee roasters, to stay informed about new offerings, sourcing stories and to provide valuable feedback.
Customer Service Oversight :
Act as the primary point of contact for coffee customer feedback, resolving issues professionally to maintain high guest satisfaction. Maintain a coffee menu for guests with detailed information about origin, flavor profiles and brewing methods to enhance their experience and build loyalty.
Cleanliness and Safety :
Maintain high standards of cleanliness and organization for the bar area, service stations, and equipment, adhering to health and safety regulations
Required Skills and Qualifications Experience :
Typically at least 3 years in a specialty coffee environment; coffee certification or formal education is a plus.
Technical Expertise :
Proficient with espresso machines, grinders, and brewing equipment, with strong knowledge of coffee preparation techniques
Customer Service :
Excellent communication, empathy, and problem-solving skills to ensure positive guest experience.
Leadership and Teamwork :
Ability to motivate and manage a team, multitask effectively, and maintain a collaborative work environment
Critical Thinking :
Strong organizational skills, time management, and the ability to handle operational challenges efficiently Additional Attributes Passion for coffee and dedication to maintaining high standards.
