Cashier/Barista Cornflower Baked Goods Leawood, KS Job Details $15 - $30 an hour 17 hours ago Full Job Description We are looking for Bakery Cashiers/Baristas Cornflower Baked Goods is the newest concept from the Rye KC team, led by acclaimed pastry chef Megan Garrelts and chef Colby Garrelts. The Leawood bakery builds on the baked goods Rye guests already know and love, while creating a dedicated neighborhood space for fresh pastries, pies, cakes, coffee, and thoughtful grab-and-go offerings.
Scope & General Purpose:
The Bakery Cashier/Barista plays an important role in the daily guest experience at Cornflower by providing welcoming, attentive, and efficient counter and beverage service. This position is responsible for guiding guests through the bakery experience, accurately handling transactions, preparing coffee and café beverages, supporting pastry and retail sales, and maintaining a clean, organized, and inviting front-of-house environment. This is a guest-facing role suited for someone who enjoys hospitality, multitasking, coffee service, and creating genuine interactions with guests throughout the day.

Provide warm, friendly, and knowledgeable service to all guests Greet guests and guide them through menu offerings, pastries, beverages, and retail items Answer questions and provide thoughtful recommendations Operate POS and handle transactions accurately and efficiently Maintain smooth and organized guest flow during busy periods Assist in creating a welcoming and hospitality-driven café environment Communicate clearly with guests and teammates to support efficient service Barista & Beverage Responsibilities Prepare and serve espresso drinks, brewed coffee, teas, and other café beverages according to Cornflower standards Maintain consistency, quality, and presentation of all coffee and beverage items Properly steam milk, pull espresso shots, and follow drink recipes and build standards Keep the coffee bar clean, stocked, and organized throughout the shift Restock coffee beans, milk, syrups, teas, cups, lids, sleeves, and other beverage supplies as needed Monitor beverage quality and communicate any product, equipment, or consistency concerns to leadership Assist with basic care and cleaning of coffee equipment, including espresso machine, grinders, brewers, and smallwares Follow all food safety, sanitation, and cleanliness standards related to beverage preparation and service Support thoughtful beverage recommendations and help guests navigate the coffee and drink menu Bakery Operations Maintain clean, organized, and well-stocked counter, dining, beverage, and display areas Restock pastries, retail items, paper goods, and bakery supplies throughout the shift Assist with beverage running, guest needs, and overall café support as needed Monitor product presentation and communicate low inventory or product concerns to leadership Support opening and closing responsibilities as assigned Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards Keep workstations, equipment, and service areas clean and organized throughout the shift Team Development & Culture Contribute to a positive, collaborative, and hospitality-focused team culture Work collaboratively with both front and back of house teams to support daily operations Step in to assist teammates and support service needs when necessary Maintain a calm, professional, and thoughtful approach during busy service periods Take direction and feedback from leadership regarding service standards, coffee standards, and daily operations
Requirements:
Previous experience in café, bakery, restaurant, retail, or hospitality environments preferred Previous barista or coffee service experience preferred Guest-focused mindset with strong communication and interpersonal skills Comfortable preparing coffee and café beverages in a fast-paced environment Comfortable multitasking and working efficiently during busy periods Positive, upbeat, and dependable attitude Strong attention to cleanliness, organization, and product presentation Physically able to stand for long periods and lift up to 50 lbs The above job description is not intended to be all-inclusive and may be amended at any time by management.
