Job Description
Position Summary One part Barista, one part bar, all-star hospitality. The Coffee & Beverage Specialist combines coffee craftsmanship, walk-up counter service and thoughtful adult beverage creation throughout breakfast, brunch, and dinner service. This role is responsible for preparing specialty coffee and espresso beverages, preparing a limited menu of pre-batched craft cocktails and coffee cocktails, assisting guests at our walk-up café counter with to-go items and supporting our dining room with after-dinner beverage service. Whether welcoming a guest, grabbing a latte to go, pulling handcrafted espresso drinks, or preparing a coffee cocktail to finish a memorable meal, you'll help create experiences that keep guests coming back. Essential Responsibilities Guest Experience Welcome every guest with warmth, professionalism, and genuine hospitality. Deliver prompt, attentive service while maintaining attention to detail during both busy and slower periods. Build relationships with regular guests and help create a memorable experience for every visitor. Develop a thorough understanding of our seasonal menus, local farm partners, bakery items, desserts, and beverage offerings. Confidently answer guest questions about ingredients and menu items. Coffee & Beverage Service Prepare espresso-based beverages, drip coffee, teas, cold coffee drinks, and seasonal specialty beverages to company standards. Steam milk properly and consistently while maintaining beverage quality and presentation. Prepare after-dinner espresso beverages, coffee cocktails, and a limited selection of pre-batched craft cocktails, while following all responsible alcohol-service practices. Comply with and uphold all state and local alcohol laws. Maintain consistency in recipes, beverage quality, and presentation. Collaborate with servers to ensure beverages and desserts are delivered promptly and seamlessly. Support the front-of-house team wherever needed to create an exceptional guest experience. Café Counter Service Operate the walk-up café counter efficiently for to-go guests. Process guest orders accurately using the POS system. Package and serve beverages, pastries, desserts, snacks, and ice cream in accordance with PGH standards. Ensure the café counter reflects the same level of hospitality and attention to detail as the dining room. Operations Open and close the cafe/coffee station in accordance with established procedures. Calibrate espresso equipment and monitor coffee quality throughout each shift. Restock supplies, rotate inventory, and communicate product needs. Maintain cleanliness and organization of the café, espresso equipment, beverage station, and service areas. Follow all food safety, sanitation, and health department standards. Complete opening, closing, and side work responsibilities. Be willing to jump in wherever needed to deliver exceptional hospitality. Ideal Candidate We're looking for someone who genuinely enjoys making people feel welcome. You appreciate both the craft behind exceptional coffee and the role thoughtful hospitality plays in creating memorable dining experiences. Qualifications Must be at least 18 years of age and legally eligible to serve alcohol. Previous experience as a barista and/or preparing espresso beverages is preferred; café attendant, bartender, server, or other roles in restaurant hospitality are also desirable; willingness to learn is essential. Comfortable preparing a limited selection of alcoholic beverages. Passion for hospitality, great service, coffee, food, and creating memorable guest experiences. Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to multitask while maintaining attention to detail in a fast-paced environment. Positive attitude, strong work ethic, and willingness to learn. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 30 pounds. Availability to work both morning and evening shifts , including weekends and holidays.
