Barista/Team Member

Overview Appalachian Snail is a cafe and grocery store in beautiful Harpers Ferry, WV! Along with quality espresso beverages we offer local farm-fresh produce to handle your grocery needs. We are seeking a dedicated Barista to join our team. As a Barista, you will play a crucial role in creating a welcoming atmosphere for our customers while delivering high-quality beverages and food items. Your enthusiasm for coffee and exceptional customer service will help enhance the overall experience for our guests. Baristas are responsible for making quality espresso drinks and beverages, preparing sandwiches, scooping ice cream, working the cash register, general cleaning, and stocking the store. Baristas must do all of these tasks efficiently while also making sure to form good customer relationships. Baristas need to have strong English skills, interpersonal skills, and must thrive in an environment that requires multi-tasking. The best baristas are dedicated to providing a high quality customer experience.

Compensation:

Starting at $10 - $12/hour plus tips

Shifts:

(Wed - Sat) Morning Shifts 7:30am to 2:00pm (Fri & Sat) Flex Shifts 10:00am to 4:00pm (Fri & Sat) Night Shifts 4:00pm to 8:00pm (Fri & Sat) Night Shifts 1:00pm to 8:00pm Duties Prepare and serve a variety of coffee beverages, teas, and food items with precision and care Assist in scooping and serving of ice cream Assemble sandwiches according to customer order Prepare necessary food items/ingredients for future use and proper storage Maintain cleanliness and organization of the cafe area, outdoor area, fireplace, including equipment and utensils Restocking and tracking inventory for market goods Starting fire in the wood-burning stove (weather permitting) and maintaining/stoking Engage with customers to provide excellent service, taking orders accurately and efficiently Handle cash transactions and operate the point-of-sale system, ensuring accurate cash handling Collaborate with team members to ensure smooth operations during busy periods Assist in inventory management, including restocking produce as needed Stay informed about menu items and promotions to effectively communicate with customers Experience Previous experience in a cafe or food service environment is highly preferred but not mandatory Familiarity with food handling and preparation practices is advantageous and invaluable Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage positively with guests Basic math skills for cash handling and retail math applications A genuine interest in coffee culture and willingness to learn about different brewing methods Join a cafe culture that holds comfortability, enthusiasm, respect, good communication, and kindness all in high regard!
