JOB OVERVIEW
As a Four Diamond property, The Westin Anaheim Resort is committed to delivering an exceptional, elevated, and highly personalized level of hospitality. The Barback is a high-performance, guest-focused support role that directly impacts the speed, quality, and execution of the bar experience. This position is a development pathway into a Bartender role. Team Members are expected to actively support bar operations while building product knowledge, technical skills, and service awareness. Barbacks are responsible for maintaining a fully operational, stocked, and guest-ready bar always, while contributing to a seamless and refined guest experience. This role requires a proactive, guest-first mindset, with strong anticipation, awareness, and attention to detail. Every action, whether guest-facing or behind the scenes, should enhance the overall experience and reflect Four Diamond service standards.WORK REQUIREMENTS
Responsibilities & Service Expectations Approach all responsibilities with a guest-first mindset, ensuring every action—whether guest-facing or behind the scenes— supports a seamless and elevated experience Maintain a fully stocked, clean, and service-ready bar always, before, during, and after service Anticipate bartender and guest needs, executing support tasks proactively without direction Manage and maintain all bar inventory levels, including liquor, beer, wine, ice, glassware, and garnishes Execute opening and closing duties with precision, ensuring full operational readiness Change kegs, restock product, and maintain all bar equipment to standard Maintain cleanliness and organization of all bar areas, including wells, coolers, storage, and guest-facing spaces Control bar flow by removing used glassware, maintaining organization, and supporting speed of service Assist with food running and guest support during high-volume periods Engage with guests in a polished and professional manner when appropriate Learn, retain, and apply knowledge of cocktails, spirits, beer, and wine offerings Follow all sanitation, safety, and responsible alcohol service standards Support all areas of the operation as needed to ensure seamless and elevated guest experience Service & Behavioral Standards Maintain a polished, professional presence that reflects a guest-first, service-driven environment Move with urgency, precision, and awareness in a high-volume setting Demonstrate strong spatial awareness and control behind the bar Communicate clearly, confidently, and respectfully with the team Operate with a team-first mindset while maintaining personal accountability Take full ownership of the bar environment—cleanliness, organization, and readiness Development Expectations Actively study and demonstrate knowledge of cocktail recipes, ingredients, and preparation methods Develop a strong understanding of spirits, beer, wine, and bar operations Observe, learn, and replicate proper bartending techniques and service standards Demonstrate initiative, consistency, and readiness to take on increased responsibility Progression into a Bartender role is performance-based and requires demonstrated competency, reliability, and leadership readines Safety & Sanitation Standards Maintain a clean, organized, and hazard-free bar environment always Immediately address spills, broken glass, and unsafe conditions Follow proper lifting and handling procedures when moving kegs and heavy items Ensure all service pathways remain clear, safe, and unobstructed Properly handle and store all glassware, tools, and equipment Follow all chemical handling and sanitation protocols Report all safety concerns or incidents immediately to management Availability & Scheduling Expectations Full-time team members are required to maintain open and flexible availability based on business demands. Schedules are assigned according to operational needs, and specific shift or day preferences cannot be guaranteed Part-time team members must maintain availability for a minimum of three (3) shifts per week Weekend availability is mandatory, including Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, as well as all holidays Availability must remain consistent for a minimum of six (6) months Any changes to availability must be submitted in advance and are subject to Department Head approval Qualifications & Requirements Previous barback or high-volume restaurant experience preferred Must be at least 21 years of age Strong sense of urgency and ability to perform under pressure Ability to multitask while maintaining organization and attention to detail Strong communication and teamwork skills Demonstrated interest in bartending and professional growth Professional, reliable, and service-oriented demeanor Understanding of sanitation and alcohol service standards Performance Expectations Consistently maintain bar readiness, cleanliness, and organization Support efficient and high-level bar execution Demonstrate reliability, accountability, and strong work ethic Show measurable progress in product knowledge and bartending readiness Contribute to a high-performing, guest-focused team environmentPHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
While performing the duties of this job it will require: Must be able to tolerate temperature changes from hot to cold and cold to hot. Must be able to tolerate noise and vibration and a variety of physical conditions such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, working on scaffolding and high places. Sit, stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally. Frequently, use hands for keyboard and arms to reach. Must be able to exert physical effort in transporting 100 pounds, endure various physical movements throughout the work areas, reach up and down, remain stationary at times throughout work periods, and satisfactorily communicate with guests and co-workers to their understanding. Additional Requirements Minimum of 2-3 years in a full-service hotel, restaurant or high-profile bar. Must be able to walk and stand for long periods of time. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays Must possess a high level of high-quality standards & organization Complete knowledge and understanding of the service industry, policies and procedures to include sanitation. Proficiency working with various computer programs including but not limited to Micros and Microsoft Office Suite.Source:
