Job Description

The 1894 Wine Bar is an intimate neighborhood wine bar committed to offering a curated selection of fine wines, craft beers, craft cocktails, and delicious small plates. We pride ourselves on creating a warm, inviting atmosphere where our guests can discover new favorites and feel right at home. We are searching for a passionate and knowledgeable bartender to guide our guests on their wine journey with genuine warmth and expertise. The 1894 is currently seeking a part-time Bartender. This is a non-exempt position with a variable schedule of 20-25 hours per week . Flexible availability is required, including evenings and weekends, with additional hours as needed. Bartenders will be trained in all aspects of bar operations and are responsible for serving guests at the bar top, as well as performing the following duties during their shifts:
  • Greeting guests warmly, engage in friendly conversation, and offer personalized recommendations.
  • Prepare and serve wine, craft cocktails, and beer accurately and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate solid knowledge of wine varietals, regions, tasting notes, and food pairings.
  • Communicate menu offerings and daily specials confidently.
  • Process payments, manage tabs, and handle cash accurately using the POS system.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked bar throughout each shift.
  • Adhere to all liquor laws and verify guest identification.
  • Collaborate with team members to deliver a seamless guest experience.
  • Handle guest inquiries or concerns professionally.
  • Complete all closing duties, including register closeout, cleaning, resetting, and trash removal.
Additional qualities we are looking for: Previous bartending experience, preferably in a wine bar or fine dining environment. Strong wine knowledge; familiarity with craft beer and cocktails is a plus. Excellent communication, multitasking, and customer service skills. Professional, friendly demeanor with a passion for hospitality. Reliable, adaptable, and able to work in a fast-paced setting. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 25 lbs. Valid RBS/TIPS and California Food Handler certifications required
