Required Years of Experience 2 years Job Details About the Role Boston Fish Market in Wheeling is seeking an experienced, high-energy Lead Bartender to command our bar program and elevate our beverage operations. We operate a high-volume, premium dining destination built on exceptional seafood, an energetic atmosphere, and high operational standards. As Lead Bartender, you will combine expert craft mixology and efficient high-volume service with clear leadership. Beyond running an active, highly profitable bar, you will serve as the primary trainer and subject matter expert for our team—educating front-of-house staff on spirits, wine, beer, and classic cocktails to ensure consistent beverage excellence across the floor. Key Responsibilities & Operational Expectations Bar Leadership & High-Volume Execution Command the bar during peak service hours with speed, precision, and strong guest engagement. Craft hand-crafted cocktails, pour draft and bottled beer, and execute wine service quickly and accurately. Manage direct bar seating, providing full-service dining to bar guests with refined hospitality. Maintain a pristine, organized, and fully stocked bar, ensuring strict adherence to sanitation, safety, and health department guidelines. Staff Training & Beverage Education Lead ongoing beverage training for servers and bartenders on spirits, classic cocktail builds, wine profiles, and seafood pairings. Develop cheat sheets, tasting notes, and training guides to build strong product knowledge across the team. Onboard and mentor new bar staff, ensuring all service standards, pouring rules, and operational routines are met consistently. Conduct pre-shift huddles to highlight featured spirits, seasonal cocktails, or wine specials. Bar Program Management & Inventory Partner with management to monitor bar inventory, assist with liquor costs, and minimize pour waste. Maintain strict quality control for syrups, garnishes, draft line freshness, and proper glassware execution. Ensure accurate POS entries, ring-ins, and modifier accuracy for all service bar tickets.
Qualifications & Requirements Experience:
Minimum 2-4 years of high-volume bartending experience in a full-service or upscale restaurant setting. Prior experience in a lead, head bartender, or trainer role preferred.
Product Expertise:
Deep knowledge of spirits, classic cocktail construction, wine styles, and beer categories, with the ability to teach others effectively.
Leadership & Energy:
Strong verbal communication skills, natural authority on the floor, and a contagious, dynamic presence.
Physical Capabilities:
Ability to stand for long periods, maneuver kegs, carry heavy liquor cases, and work rapidly under high-volume pressure.
Certifications:
Valid state Food Handler and BASSET/Alcohol Service certifications required upon hire.
Availability:
Flexible schedule, including full availability for weekend shifts, nights, and holidays.
