Job Description
Overview We are seeking a friendly and knowledgeable Wine Specialist / Sommelier to help create an exceptional wine experience at Hideaway Café & Wine Bar. This role is ideal for someone with wine service experience who enjoys introducing guests to new wines in a welcoming and approachable environment. Our wine program features wines by the glass, bottles, flights, and self-pour wine dispensers. The Wine Specialist will help guests discover wines they'll enjoy, recommend food pairings, assist with wine service, and help maintain our wine program. Responsibilities Welcome guests and provide personalized wine recommendations based on their preferences. Recommend wine pairings with menu items. Educate guests on wine styles, varietals, regions, and tasting notes in a friendly, approachable manner. Assist guests with using our self-pour wine dispensing system. Conduct occasional wine tastings and introduce featured wines. Ensure proper wine storage, presentation, and service. Help maintain wine inventory and communicate restocking needs. Assist with receiving and organizing wine deliveries. Work closely with servers, bartenders, and management to provide an outstanding guest experience. Help train front-of-house staff on wine knowledge and pairing recommendations. Verify guest age and ensure responsible alcohol service in accordance with New Jersey regulations. Assist with opening and closing duties as needed. Qualifications 1-3 years of experience in wine service, restaurants, wine bars, wineries, or hospitality. Good knowledge of wine varietals, regions, tasting techniques, and food pairings. Passion for hospitality and creating memorable guest experiences. Strong communication and customer service skills. Comfortable working evenings, weekends, and holidays. Ability to stand for extended periods and lift wine cases when needed. WSET Level 1 or 2, Court of Master Sommeliers Introductory, or similar wine education is a plus, but not required . Preferred Qualities Friendly, engaging, and enthusiastic personality. Enjoys educating guests without being overly formal. Curious about learning more about wine and expanding their knowledge. Organized, dependable, and detail-oriented. Works well in a collaborative team environment.
