Who are we? Bookie's Sports & Rec is a new restaurant and entertainment concept opening in Williamsburg, VA. We're creating a high-energy destination where great food, sports, recreation, and hospitality come together. Bookie's Sports & Rec is the newest addition to the Against The Grain Restaurant Group's portfolio, joining sister brands Amber Ox Public House, Precarious Beer Project, The Bake Shop, and Cook's Burger Bar. Position Overview:
The Bartender and Server positions at Bookie's Sports & Rec is the cornerstone to all things front of house, but most importantly, our beverage and service program. They will be directly responsible for ensuring our guests have an exceptional experience, by executing all components of proper food and beverage service. From the greeting and order taking, to proper delivery of beverages and the food, our service team will be the industry leaders within our market in delivering an uncompromised service experience. Last and most important, our servers and bartenders must make sure that every guest they encounter during their shift leaves Bookie's Sports & Rec feeling better than they did when they arrived. Their responsibility is to make our guests feel welcomed by delivering genuine hospitality and creating a warm and welcoming environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
Promote, work and act in a manner consistent with the mission of Bookie's Sports & Rec Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic drinks consistent with the restaurant's standard drink recipes. Experts in service, flavor descriptions, weight, style, and abv in the beer we offer. Execute proper steps of beverage and food service for every patron that sits at the bar, dining area, or patio. Recognize and learn names of regular guests and their food & beverage preferences, dietary restrictions, or special needs, in an effort to create a lasting relationship with Bookie's. Accept guest payment, process credit card charges, and make any necessary changes. Maintain a properly balanced bank at all times. Take beverage and food orders from patrons directly seated at the bar, dining area, or patio. Record drink and food orders accurately and immediately after having received them by putting them into the point-of-sale system. Check identification of all guests to verify age requirements to purchase alcohol, according to the local Virginia ABC guidelines. Attempt to limit problems and liability related to guests' excessive drinking by following proper alcohol management protocol. Always keep a properly stocked bar with beer, wine, liquor, and related supplies such as ice, glassware, napkins, straws, etc. Properly complete daily beer, wine and liquor requisitions to be filled and submitted to management. Able to produce all base recipes for cocktail mixers, juices, bitters, tinctures, shrubs, etc. as dictated by standard recipes. Keep a meticulously clean, organized and clutter-free work environment, including but not limited to counters, sinks, utensils, shelves, storage areas, etc. Arrange and maintain bottles and glasses in an attractive and functional manner to support efficient drink preparation, promotion of beverages and attractive displays. Attend all scheduled employee meetings. Report all equipment or maintenance issues in a timely fashion to management / ownership. Assist all fellow employees in their duties to always maintain a high level of service, regardless of section.
Minimum Qualifications:
1+ years' experience as a server/bartender at a high-volume, high-quality restaurant / bar. 3+ years in a cash handling position. An obsessive dedication to cleaning and sanitation practices, and an appropriate understanding of the chemicals and methods used in these processes. A highly motivated, self-starting, and independent approach to work style. Passion, creativity, teamwork, communication skills, professionalism, and the ability to meet the physical demands of the serving/bartending environment are all assumed for this role. Possess excellent verbal and non-verbal communication skills as well as the ability to interact with guests daily.
Preferred Qualifications:
Virginia ABC (RSVP) Certified Completed cicerone class or training course and possess advanced knowledge of beer and the beer making process. A passion for creating cocktails using locally sourced, hand-crafted products. Advanced recipe development and flavor profile experience General Knowledge or passion for beverage, including craft beer, spirits, cocktails, and wine. Home brewing experience a plus.
Servers:
Must be 18 years or older with a valid U.S. driver's license and the legal ability to work in the United States.
Bartenders:
Must be 21 years or older with a valid U.S. driver's license and the legal ability to work in the United States.
Pay:
From $2.13 per hour Expected hours: 25.0 - 45.0 per week
