JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE
BARTENDER
USUAL TIME OF WORK SHIFT
Varies with facility needs. Some full-time positions and some part-time positions.
BREAKS:
Two breaks, and one ½ hour lunch.
OVERTIME
As required.
MACHINES USED
Cash register, 10-key calculator, glass dishwasher, blenders, hand mixers, stand mixers, refrigeration units, soda fountain dispenser, ice machine, vacuum cleaner.
TOOLS USED
Bar utensils, various measuring containers (measuring jig), mixers, cocktail shakers, swizzle, & related bar tools. Mops, brooms, cleaning items.
ASSISTIVE DEVICES
Utility carts, pushcarts, 2-3 step stools.
SAFETY CLOTHING/EQUIPMENT
Uniform consisting of dress shirt/blouse, slacks, non-slip shoes.
SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED
Speak, read, write, and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace. Basic computer experience.
DESCRIPTION OF WORKPLACE/WORKSTATION
The work takes place at a variety of locations at a hotel bar. The surfaces at the locations are level, cement, tiled, carpeted, or wood. Serving areas are equipped with anti-slip floor mats. Most of the work locations are both well-lit and ventilated. The Bartender may be exposed for limited periods of time to high and low temperatures when using the walk-in freezer/refrigerator, or while adjacent to grills, ovens, etc.
DESCRIPTION OF JOB TASKS/PURPOSE
The Bartender's primary responsibility is to mix drink orders that either they or the serving staff provide to customers. The Bartender prepares standard mixed drinks, and occasionally mix drinks to suit a customer's specific taste. Most of the Bartenders know dozens of drink recipes, and are able to mix drinks accurately quickly, and without waste during busy periods. The Bartender collects payment for the drinks served, operates the cash register, cleans up after customers leave, and may also serve food to customers seated at bar. Bartenders check identification for age requirements, and are responsible for ordering and maintaining an inventory of liquor, mixes, and other bar supplies. On a typical day, the Bartender performs the following duties: 1. Logs in at the beginning of the shift. 2. Reviews relevant documentation for the day's activities. 3. Checks inventories for beverages and non-food items, stocking necessary items, or placing orders for items needed. 4. Fills ice bins. 5. Ensures that all bar implements and equipment are available for the shift's needs. 6. Takes drink orders from customers or serving staff. 7. Mixes and prepares drinks for customers and/or serving staff. 8. Verifies customer age by checking their identification. 9. Re-stocks depleted bar items. 10. Prepares list of items for reordering. 11. Retrieves items from dry storage, refrigeration or liquor cabinet. 12. Replenishes ingredients, equipment or supplies. 13. Cleans up general work area and surrounding areas. 14. Prepares drink garnishes for next shift. 15. Ensures that all ingredients are available and the bar is well stocked. 16. Communicates with and assigns duties to various staff members regarding procedures, current activities, needs, etc. 17. At the end of work shift, balances cash register, puts away alcohol, sweeps, mops, logs out. This employer participates in E-Verify.
