Summary of Position:
As a Food Service Worker/Logistics Assistant at Sacred Heart Retreat House, you will work closely with our culinary team to provide high-quality dining experiences for our retreatants and guests. Your primary responsibility is two-fold, to maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment and to assist with the logistics of meal preparation in order to provide an excellent dining room experience.
Purpose of Your Job Position:
The Food Service Worker/Logistics Assistant is responsible for maintaining kitchen upkeep and cleanliness including dishwashing and cleaning of the dishes, glassware, pots and pans; loading or unloading trucks that deliver or pick up food and supplies; food preparation and serving; communication with dietary team regarding meal service. The position also assists with logistics needed for retreat house event setups. This position plays a vital role in enhancing the overall quality of kitchen and dining service. Their dedication to cleanliness, food safety, and customer service contributes significantly to the well-being and satisfaction of retreat house guests.
Qualifications and Education Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience in a food service or dietary role is preferred. Knowledge of food safety and sanitation regulations. Servesafe certificate required within 30 days of time of hire Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Compassion and patience when dealing with guests. Physical ability to stand for extended periods and lift moderate weights.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Maintain a clean and organized kitchen area, including walk-in refrigerator/freezer, and pantry according to FIFO. Ensure all daily and PM cleanup is completed according to sanitation procedures. Sweep and mop kitchen floors, clean sinks and counter tops daily. Wash pots, pans, dishes, utensils, and kitchen equipment following proper sanitation procedures. Dispose of food waste and trash in a hygienic manner. Follow infection control and safety protocols. Assist in the heating, re-heating, chopping, and prep for meals in conjunction with the cooks. Assist with menu planning as needed. Handle and prepare food ingredients safely and hygienically. Ensure that special dietary requirements are met. Ensure set up and clean up in dining areas for meal service, including table settings and utensils. Provide dining room service with courtesy and respect. Monitor food temperatures to ensure meals are served at the appropriate temperatures. Communicate effectively with guests, sisters, and staff members. Collaborate with the dietary team to ensure efficient meal service and address dietary needs. Report any issues or concerns to the appropriate staff members. Loads or unloads trucks that deliver or pick up food and supplies Adhere to all food safety and sanitation regulations. Maintain accurate records related to food preparation, inventory, and meal service. Attend training sessions and workshops to stay updated on dietary guidelines and best practices.

Perform responsibilities in keeping with training received as assigned at the discretion of the Supervisor or Manager. Adhere to professional dress code that reflects the mission of Sacred Heart Retreat House with excellent grooming and appearance. Follow all guidelines in the handbook and policies, as well as, all safety procedures. Attend all in-services, meetings and other training required by this position. Working Conditions Unless otherwise agreed upon hire, staff members must generally be available to work weekends and holidays. Subject to extreme temperatures ranging from 0°F - 200°F. Subject to strong odors/smells. Exposure to chemicals that can be skin or eye irritants. Mobility over 4 acre campus and multiple buildings required. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule, but typically between the hours of 8 am-5pm and some nights and weekends with little to no overtime. Physical and Sensory Requirements This position spends approximately 85% of the day walking, standing and moving for extended periods of time. Must be able to sit, stand, bend and walk in the course of their normal duties. Must have hand and wrist coordination. Must be able to lift a minimum 25 pounds alone and a minimum of 50 pounds in partnered lifting to a minimum height of 5-7 feet. Must have good vision for close up work (with or without the aid of eye glasses or contact lenses). Must be able to speak and communicate verbally with co-workers, customers, vendors, etc.
Pay:
$18.40 - $23.92 per hour
