REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
  • Any combination equivalent to: a High School diploma or equivalent supplemented by formal training in meal planning, sanitation, record keeping, and two (2) years of experience in institutional cooking in an education or equivalent setting.
Knowledge of:
  • Institutional quantity of food preparation, methods, procedures, and service.
  • Food storage and sanitation procedures.
  • Kitchen/production facility safety and safe work procedures.
  • Food production line processes.
  • Computer-aided data entry applications for storing data about students and kitchen operations.
  • Sufficient arithmetic skills to compute weights, measures, counts, and portions.
  • Sufficient reading skills to interpret menus, ingredient lists, and preparation instructions.
  • Sufficient human relations skill to exhibit positive customer service and work as a productive member of a team.
  • Sanitation and safety practices related to preparing, handling and serving food.
  • Standard kitchen equipment and utensils.
  • Interpersonal skills using tact, patience and courtesy.
  • Proper lifting techniques.
  • Basic math and cashiering skills.
  • Oral and written communication skills.
  • Basic record-keeping techniques.
Ability to:
  • Prepare and serve hot and cold menu items to students and staff at an assigned school site.
  • Assist with cooking and baking various food items.
  • Maintain food service facilities, equipment and utensils in a clean and sanitary condition.
  • Wash, cut, slice, grate, mix and assemble food items and ingredients.
  • Coordinate and sequence food preparation activity in order to serve a variety of food items concurrently.
  • Operate standard kitchen equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Follow health and sanitation requirements.
  • Communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
