Job Description
Food Service - Cook Job Description A food service worker at Pleasant Valley is responsible for assisting with the daily preparation and service of meals for students and staff while maintaining high standards of food quality, sanitation, safety, and compliance with federal and state meal program requirements. They work as part of the district food service team and will be assigned primarily to one of the district's two school buildings. The specific building assignment will be determined based on district staffing and operational needs. This position plays an important role in providing students with nutritious, appealing meals in a safe, welcoming, and efficient environment. Qualifications & Skills Must obtain and maintain required Illinois food-handler training in accordance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements. Must have a High School diploma or equivalent. Working knowledge of kitchen equipment, food preparation, and food production procedures. Experience in a food service-related field is strongly preferred. Positive interpersonal skills and ability to interact professionally with students and staff. Ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. Organized and able to multitask while maintaining attention to detail. Must be extremely punctual and dependable. Ability to follow established food preparation, sanitation, safety, and meal service procedures. Ability to communicate effectively with the District Food Service Manager and other food service staff. Must be able to complete all physical requirements of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation, including: Ability to remain in a stationary position for prolonged periods. Ability to frequently move boxes and supplies weighing up to 50 pounds for various needs. Ability to work in and around cold conditions, including walk-in coolers and freezers. Ability to work in and around hot and noisy conditions in the kitchen. Job Duties & Responsibilities Embrace and help grow the mission of Pleasant Valley which is to "engage, inspire, and empower each student towards academic excellence and citizenship". Prepare and serve appropriate quantities of food in accordance with federal meal pattern and menu requirements. Follow established menus, recipes, portion sizes, and food preparation procedures. Maintain high standards of quality in food preparation, presentation, sanitation, and safety. Follow all applicable health, food safety, and sanitation requirements. Assist with maintaining clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen, food preparation, storage, and serving areas. Properly operate, clean, and maintain kitchen equipment as directed. Assist with receiving, storing, rotating, and organizing food and supplies. Monitor inventory and communicate low-stock items and supply needs to the District Food Service Manager. Assist the District Food Service Manager with reordering, reporting, recordkeeping, and other food service responsibilities as assigned. Assist with completing state and federal reports, paperwork, and required food service documentation. Work cooperatively with local health agencies and district administration to maintain compliance with health inspections, food safety requirements, and applicable licensure. Follow proper procedures for food temperatures, storage, handling, cleaning, and sanitation. Provide courteous and professional service to students and staff. Support a positive, welcoming, and respectful meal service environment for students. Work collaboratively with food service staff at the assigned building and communicate effectively regarding daily operations and student needs. Work primarily at the assigned school building; however, the employee may be asked to provide assistance at the district's other school building based on staffing or operational needs. Other duties as assigned by administration or the District Food Service Manager. Building Assignment This position will be assigned primarily to one of the district's two school buildings . The specific building assignment will be determined by the district based on staffing needs and operational requirements. Occasional work or assistance at the district's other building may be required.
