Job Description

Title:

Food Service Cook at Tecumseh South

Schedule:

6.75 hours per day / 172 days per year

Reports to: Food Service Director

Purpose and Objectives of the

Position:

The Food Service Cook prepares and serves the students nutritious and attractive meals in an atmosphere of efficiency, cleanliness, and warmth. To accomplish these tasks the Food Service Cook must work closely with the staff and Kitchen Site Manager.

Essential Job Functions:

Ability to assist in food preparation.

Ability to ensure all activities conform to district guidelines.

Ability to communicate and work effectively and cooperatively with members of the school district and community.

Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.

Ability to safely operate all equipment as required.

Physical Requirements/Environmental Conditions:

Requires prolonged standing.

Ability to lift 50 pounds.

Requires physical exertion to manually move, lift, carry, pull, or push heavy objects or materials.

Requires stooping, bending, kneeling, reaching and turning.

Must work in a noisy and crowded environment, with numerous interruptions.

Must work in and around fumes and odors.

General Responsibilities:
  • Ability to perform duties assigned by Kitchen Site Manager to prepare and serve meals in an efficient and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to properly use and care for all equipment in all phases of food preparation.
  • Ability to follow rules for personal hygiene and overall cleanliness and sanitation in kitchen.

Ability to work with Kitchen Site Manager in a pleasant, cheerful manner to make schools meals a pleasant for all students. Attend in-service meetings and job-related training classes when possible for learning and exchange ideas to make the breakfast and lunch programs successful.

Ability to respond to information requests in a cooperative, courteous, and timely manner.

Ability to perform other tasks and responsibilities as directed by the Food Service Director.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:

Demonstrated aptitude for successful performance of the tasks listed.

Ability to observe and follow all school district policies at all times.

Ability to react to change and frequent interruptions in a productive and positive manner, meeting deadlines as assigned.

Ability to implement and follow all district health and safety policies, including all precautions of the Bloodborne Pathogens Exposure Control Plan.

Must complete annual training required by district.

Must verify good health by passing a physical examination that includes TB and drug test as required.

Desire to continue career improvement by enhancing skills and job performance.

Ability to keep student and personnel information and records confidential.

Terms of Employment:

At Will. Salary to be established by the Board.

Evaluation:

Performance of this job will be evaluated in accordance with the provisions of the USD 450 Board of Education's policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel and this job description.
