  • An employee in this position will prepare, portion, and serve nutritionally adequate meals and snacks for the residents, staff and guests at the Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings.

In addition, the incumbent will prepare salads, nourishments and carry-out lunches, sets up for special functions and maintains a clean, safe and sanitary work environment. This position is designated as part-time. The work schedule will include at least 40 hours per 2-week pay period and may include additional work hours, based on business needs. This position is initially eligible for a partial employer contribution towards health and dental insurance benefits. The Minnesota Veterans Home in Hastings is a Domiciliary (DOM) which is an independent living community for Veterans. It provides a supportive environment that fosters a stable, healthy, and meaningful life for Veterans. Our rewarding program helps Veterans with their clinical, mental, chemical, and physical needs, and has the capacity to serve 195 Veterans between the Hastings and Minneapolis campuses. We offer a creative, fun, collaborative, and stimulating work environment that encourages professional growth. The Hastings DOM is located in the southeast metro with connecting highways for an easy commute. The beautiful 128-acre wooded campus includes mature oaks and pines, nature trails and biking paths overlooking the Vermillion River.

  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Knowledge of: + Materials and methods used in preparing food + Care and use of cooking utensils and equipment + Food values and nutrition Ability to: + Perform simple cooking on a large scale + Plan and prepare small meals on a household scale + Perform cleaning and food service tasks + To read diet cards and follow instructions
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • + Food service related experience specifically with prepping, plating and serving food + Knowledge of basic sanitation standards + ServSafe Food Certificate

  • This position requires successful completion of the following: + A Minnesota Department of Human Services (DHS) background check may be conducted on the top finalist(s) for the position.

When conducted, a finalist must pass the DHS background check.

+ A Tuberculosis (Mantoux) Screening or Chest X-Ray is required prior to employment.
