MISSION FOCUS:
Second Harvest's mission is to align with our neighbors and together build hunger free communities. The Community Meals Assistant assists in this effort by partnering with the Community Meals team in successful implementation of the delivered meals programs by assisting our culinary team in the creation of delicious and nutritious meals to feed our neighbors.
BASIC FUNCTION
Assists with the delivery and service of high-quality food to agencies and wholesale customers with a wide variety of nutritional needs; assists with day-to-day operations in specific functions and work areas.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Supports the attainment of organizational goals by maintaining quality standards for food preparation and presentation, as well as cleanliness and sanitation. Maintains daily, weekly, and monthly food safety logs.
  • Assembles high-quality food for agencies with a wide variety of nutritional needs and dietary restrictions by following Providence recipes (ensuring accurate measurements) and procedure manuals and assuring accurate labeling of all Providence foods.
  • Assists in compliance with Federal, State, and local regulations for the preparation, service, and nutritional content of food by assisting Chefs in kitchen sanitation program.
  • Assists in department's catering operation by working on catering events as needed.
  • Ensures safe work areas by complying with all OSHA, health, and sanitation regulations and requirements including, but not limited to, the implementation of safety, hazardous communication, fall prevention, and bloodborne pathogen programs, conducting accident/injury investigations, providing new employee orientation and required in-service training.
  • Communicates daily with Community Meals Assistant Production Manager on what product is to be produced/packaged.
Provide training and oversight for volunteers and temporary workers assigned to this area Greet volunteer groups utilizing current SHFB talking points, providing an overview of human safety, food safety, and the scheduled project/activity for the day Ensure positive experience for all volunteers through proper support, training and instruction, and supervision throughout the shift Collaborate with supervisor and other staff to prepare and organize volunteer projects/activities for warehouse tasks. Ability to be flexible and adjust as necessary in consultation with the supervisor Maintain high standards of personal safety for all volunteers and staff
  • Inventory- Responsible for reporting daily production levels to Community Meals Assistant Production Manager. Organize meals/ product by contract needs. Meals shall be organized to follow calendar menu. Check cooler/freezer daily based on placement of items pertaining to ServSafe.
  • Other tasks as directed.
KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIREMENTS

  • Is ServSafe certified or able to obtain certification within six months of employment.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Able to walk, sit, stoop, squat, etc., frequently Able to stand for long periods of time occasionally Able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing Visual acuity to perform job duties Able to work with a diverse group of people Able to maintain harmonious relationships with volunteers Able to lift up to twenty pounds without assistance Able to tolerate intermittent work inside walk-in freezers maintained at zero degrees or below Able to operate warehouse equipment, including pallet jacks, forklifts, etc. Basic math skills required Has sufficient sense of smell and taste to support food quality and safety checks when needed (e.g., identifying spoiled or off-spec product).
