DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS
This position involves the responsibility of performing routine manual tasks relative to the preparation and service of food, and the operation and maintenance of a Cafeteria and Preparation Kitchen. The work is performed under general supervision in accordance with the instructions of a Senior Food Service Worker. Does related work as required.
TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES
(Illustrative only) Cleans, pares, slices and prepares food for cooking or baking; Assists in preparing sandwiches, salads, desserts and other foods; Cleans and washes counters, utensils, tables, kitchen, dining room and equipment; Removes dirty dishes and utensils from dining room tables; Fills salt and pepper shakers and sugar bowls; Assists in serving food across the counter; Operates kitchen appliances and equipment; Performs various manual tasks related to food preparation, operation and maintenance of a cafeteria and/or preparation kitchen. Performs a variety of related duties as necessary for the proper nutrition of the students.
REQUIRED
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES and
PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS
Working knowledge of the methods of preparing and serving food, and care of tableware, glassware, silverware, and kitchen appliances; Working knowledge of cleaning methods, materials and equipment; Ability to operate kitchen appliances and equipment; Ability to get along well with others, especially with children; Willingness to perform routine manual tasks; Dependability, neatness of appearance, ability to read, write and do simple arithmetic calculations; Mental alertness, integrity; neatness of appearance; Tact, courtesy. Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
