$17.16 to $21.90 per hour Position Summary North Marion School District is seeking a dependable and welcoming Food Service Assistant to help prepare and serve nutritious, appealing meals for students. This position supports daily kitchen operations, including food preparation, meal service, cleanup, sanitation, and recordkeeping. The successful candidate will work well as part of a team, follow food safety requirements, and help create a positive cafeteria environment where students feel welcomed and respected. Key Responsibilities Prepare, cook, and serve meals using established menus, recipes, and portion guidelines Set up serving lines and replenish food and supplies during meal service Follow USDA, state, and district nutrition and food safety requirements Maintain clean, sanitary, safe, and orderly kitchen and serving areas Wash dishes, trays, utensils, equipment, and food preparation surfaces Safely operate and clean ovens, mixers, slicers, dishwashers, warmers, and other kitchen equipment Follow HACCP and safe food-handling procedures, including labeling, dating, storing, and rotating food Receive and organize food and supplies and check deliveries for accuracy and quality Assist with production records, meal counts, and other required documentation Support approved meal modifications for students with allergies or medical needs Report equipment problems, safety hazards, and food shortages Communicate respectfully with students, staff, and families Participate in required training and professional development Perform other related duties as assigned Required Qualifications Successful background and criminal history clearance Oregon Food Handler Certificate or ServSafe certification Ability to follow written and verbal instructions and work independently or as part of a team Ability to safely operate and maintain kitchen equipment Ability to remain calm and work effectively in a busy environment Strong communication skills and the ability to maintain positive relationships with students and staff Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate professionalism Ability to stand and walk throughout the shift, frequently bend and reach, and regularly lift up to 50 pounds Ability to push and pull carts weighing up to 100 pounds Preferred Qualifications High school diploma or equivalent Knowledge of basic food preparation, sanitation, and safety practices; training will be provided as needed Previous experience working in food service or a school setting To view full details, please see our Food Service Assistant I Job Description.
