OVERALL POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Food Service Assistant supports the Food Service Director (FSD) or Food Service Coordinator (FSC) with daily kitchen operations at Angela's House or the Old Town location. Responsibilities include meal preparation and service, stocking and organizing supplies, training residents, and working with volunteers. The Food Service Assistant also helps with special meals and events.

AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY

Prep and assist lead cook. Teach and encourage teamwork. Establish & oversee kitchen cleanliness according to Oregon Health Dept regulations. Assist

FSD/ FSC

with all food related events. Work with volunteers when and where applicable. Work closely with the other departments to ensure all food needs and services operate with organization and food safety. Maintain kitchen equipment, report any issues to FSD or FSC. Assist FSC with grocery re-stocking and/or donations when they arrive.

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of 6 months of cooking or food-service experience required; experience in a commercial, institutional, or high-volume kitchen preferred. Knowledge of food preparation, basic cooking techniques, knife handling, safe operation of commercial kitchen equipment, and proper food storage and handling practices. Current Oregon Food Handler's Card or ability to obtain one within the required timeframe. Knowledge of and ability to follow Oregon Health Department regulations, food safety standards, sanitation procedures, and established kitchen policies and procedures. Ability to maintain a clean, organized, safe, and efficient kitchen environment, including proper cleaning and sanitizing of equipment, work areas, utensils, and food preparation surfaces. Ability to safely handle cleaning chemicals and follow established procedures for chemical use, sanitation, and storage. Ability to read and follow recipes, menus, food labels, and written instructions, including accurately measuring ingredients and following established preparation procedures. Ability to prepare and serve meals efficiently while maintaining appropriate food quality, portions, temperatures, and presentation. Ability to train, mentor, and provide direction to residents and volunteers in basic cooking skills, food safety, kitchen procedures, and proper use of equipment. Ability to assist with special events and large-scale meal service, including menu preparation, food preparation, setup, serving, and cleanup. Ability to properly organize and maintain food, supplies, and storage areas, including following appropriate food rotation and storage practices. Strong communication, teamwork, interpersonal, and organizational skills, with the ability to work effectively and respectfully with staff, residents, and volunteers. Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, demonstrate good judgment, and remain flexible in a fast-paced kitchen environment. Ability to stand for extended periods and regularly bend, reach, lift, carry, push, and pull kitchen supplies and equipment as required by the position. ADDITIONAL INFORMATION

A criminal history and background check are required and must be successfully completed. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks as assigned. Ability to walk up and down steps. Obtain a food handlers card within 30 days of being hired. Oregon driver's license preferred, but not necessary.
