The Residence Inn Pittsburgh Oakland/University Place is an extended-stay hotel located in Pittsburgh's dynamic Oakland neighborhood, steps from the University of Pittsburgh and UPMC medical campus. Our guests range from traveling professionals and medical families to academic visitors — many of whom are with us for weeks or months at a time. For many of them, breakfast is the most important part of their day, and our Breakfast Attendant plays a central role in making it a great one. The Role As a Breakfast Attendant, you are the first friendly face many of our guests see each morning. You will be responsible for setting up, maintaining, and breaking down the hotel's complimentary breakfast service in the basement-level dining and common area, ensuring food and beverage items are fresh, well-stocked, and presented to Marriott Residence Inn brand standards throughout the service period. This is a morning role with consistent hours - you will typically work 5:30 AM to 11:30 AM on a rotating schedule that includes weekends. If you are a morning person who enjoys a lively, guest-facing environment and takes pride in a well-run breakfast service, this could be a great fit. What You'll Do Set up the breakfast area before service opens — arrange food and beverage stations, ensure all items are stocked, equipment is operational, and the dining space is clean and guest-ready by opening time. Maintain food and beverage levels throughout the service period; replenish hot and cold items, baked goods, beverages, condiments, and supplies continuously to ensure a full and appealing presentation. Monitor food quality and temperature throughout service; rotate items, discard anything past hold time, and ensure all food safety standards are followed at all times. Keep the dining area clean and inviting throughout the service period — wipe down tables and chairs, clean up spills promptly, remove used dishes and trash, and maintain a welcoming atmosphere for guests. Greet guests warmly and assist with questions about the breakfast offerings; provide friendly, attentive service that reflects the Residence Inn brand. Break down the breakfast area at the close of service — properly store or discard remaining food items, clean all equipment and surfaces, and return the space to a clean and organized state. Wash and sanitize dishes, utensils, serving equipment, and cooking surfaces as part of the post-service breakdown. Complete all required temperature logs, food safety checklists, and daily opening and closing documentation. Communicate any supply needs, equipment issues, or food safety concerns to your supervisor promptly. Maintain the evening reception area as assigned — the Residence Inn also offers a weekday evening social hour which may be part of this or a separate role depending on scheduling. What We're Looking For A morning person — this role starts at 5:30 AM and you should be energized and ready to deliver a great guest experience from the moment service opens. Prior food service, hospitality, or breakfast attendant experience is a plus but not required — we will train the right person. A warm, outgoing personality — you enjoy interacting with guests and making people feel welcome to start their day. Reliability and punctuality — guests count on breakfast being ready on time, every time. Strong attention to detail and a commitment to keeping the breakfast area clean, stocked, and well-presented throughout your shift. Comfort working independently and managing the breakfast area with minimal direct supervision during service. Availability to work a rotating schedule that includes weekends and holidays. Basic food safety awareness or willingness to complete food handler training upon hire. Physical Requirements This is an active role that requires you to be on your feet for most of your shift. You should be comfortable with the following: Standing and walking for extended periods throughout the shift. Lifting and carrying food service items, supply boxes, and equipment up to 30 lbs. Bending, reaching, and light repetitive motion associated with stocking and cleaning. Working in a food service environment including exposure to hot surfaces, steam, and cleaning chemicals (PPE provided). Schedule & Hours Typical shift: 5:30 AM - 11:30 AM. Rotating schedule including weekends and holidays. Both full-time and part-time positions are available. Specific days and hours will be discussed during the interview process. Why North Star Lodging Management Consistent morning hours - great for those who value a predictable schedule and prefer to have their afternoons free. A warm, team-oriented work environment where you are known by name, not a number. Training provided — no prior hotel experience required. Opportunity to grow within NSLM's portfolio of Marriott-branded properties. Work in the heart of Pittsburgh's Oakland neighborhood. How to Apply We would love to hear from you. Apply directly through this posting and a member of our team will be in touch promptly. We review applications on a rolling basis and are actively hiring. Please do not call the hotel as our Recruitment Specialist works off property. North Star Lodging Management is an equal opportunity employer. We celebrate diversity and are committed to creating an inclusive environment for all employees.
