What You'll Be Doing Join the Team That Helps End Hunger in Wake County! Wake County Social Services' Food & Nutritional Services Program (formerly Food Stamps) plays a vital role in improving nutrition, health, and food security for low‑income households. Our mission is simple yet powerful: ensure every resident has access to the food they need for a healthy, active life. We are excited to announce an opportunity to join our team as a: Food & Nutrition Services•Eligibility Caseworker I In this essential role, you will help individuals and families access the Food and Nutrition Services (FNS) benefits they rely on. You'll determine eligibility for ongoing cases, interviewing clients by phone or in person to gather the information needed to ensure they receive the support they qualify for. What You'll Do As a FNS Eligibility Caseworker I, your responsibilities will include: Assessing clients' needs and providing accurate information about available economic benefits Offering referrals to community resources and supportive services Entering required data to authorize benefits accurately and timely Requesting verifications and documentation needed to determine eligibility Evaluating information and making informed eligibility decisions Meeting established performance standards for quality and productivity Providing backup support to fellow case managers Managing work reports, documenting cases thoroughly, and maintaining up‑to‑date records Utilizing document management systems for efficient caseload management This position is hybrid based on the needs of the program and employee performance. ✨ Make a Real Impact If you're a critical thinker, detail‑oriented, dedicated to serving your community, and passionate about helping residents meet their basic needs, this role is a chance to create meaningful change—one household at a time. The Basics (Required Education and Experience) High school degree or GED Two years of related experience Equivalent education and experience are accepted Please include ALL prior work experience on your application and resume. Beyond the Basics (Preferred Education and Experience) Experience determining eligibility for a State or County Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC or Energy Assistance Program) Experience in a Human Services Technician role supporting any Human Services program in a county or state Department of Human Services or Social Services agency Direct clerical or customer services experience providing support to a Department of Social Services program (Medicaid, Food and Nutrition Services, Work First, Child Care Subsidy, Child Support, WIC or Energy Assistance Program) Spanish language skills How Will We Know You're 'The One'? Adaptability with high stress tolerance Accountability and integrity with strong attention to detail Strong ability to communicate complex policy to the public and determine client budgets; ability to develop proficiency in calculating client budgets Customer service oriented, appreciative of client diversity, and possesses the ability to develop and maintain strong relationships with customers by listening, understanding, and responding to their identified needs Ability to perform in a fast-paced deadline-driven environment with extreme accuracy to include flexibility and adaptability in an environment with frequent changes Proficient with basic computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) and NCFAST, Hyland OnBase (PRIME), and OLV (Online Verification)
