Job Description
The Dawn Hill Home for Rehab and Healthcare is seeking an experienced, dependable, and motivated Assistant Food Service Director to join our leadership team. At Dawn Hill, we believe that food service is more than meal preparation — it is an important part of resident care, comfort, dignity, and quality of life. We are looking for a strong team player who can help support daily kitchen operations, staff accountability, regulatory compliance, sanitation standards, and overall resident satisfaction.. The ideal candidate will have experience in long-term care, healthcare food service, or a similar setting, with the ability to lead by example, support the Food Service Director, and help maintain a clean, organized, survey-ready kitchen. Position Summary The Assistant Food Service Director will assist the Food Service Director with the daily operation of the dietary department, including meal service, staff supervision, sanitation, food safety, inventory, ordering support, documentation, and compliance with facility policies and state and federal regulations. This position requires strong leadership, attention to detail, and the ability to work collaboratively with nursing, administration, vendors, residents, families, and dietary staff.
Responsibilities Include:
Assist with oversight of daily food service operations. Support meal preparation, tray service, and dining room service as needed. Ensure meals are served according to physician orders, diet orders, preferences, and texture/fluid consistency requirements. Help monitor food quality, portion control, meal accuracy, and resident satisfaction. Assist with staff scheduling, assignments, training, coaching, and daily accountability. Support compliance with sanitation, infection control, food safety, and kitchen cleanliness standards. Ensure temperature logs, dish machine logs, cleaning schedules, nourishment logs, and other required documentation are completed accurately and timely. Assist with inventory control, ordering, receiving, and proper food storage. Monitor labeling, dating, stock rotation, and storage practices. Help maintain readiness for surveys, inspections, audits, and quality assurance reviews. Assist with menu compliance and coordination of therapeutic diets. Work closely with the Food Service Director, Administrator, nursing leadership, and interdisciplinary team. Serve as a positive role model for dietary staff and promote a professional, team-focused environment.Qualifications:
Previous food service experience required. Long-term care, skilled nursing, assisted living, hospital, or healthcare food service experience strongly preferred. Supervisory or leadership experience preferred. Knowledge of therapeutic diets, food safety, sanitation, and healthcare food service regulations preferred. ServSafe certification preferred or willingness to obtain. Strong communication, organization, and problem-solving skills. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and support staff with a hands-on leadership approach. Must be dependable, professional, and committed to resident-centered service.We Offer:
