Position Summary:
In collaboration with school staff, the Cafeteria/Recess Aide fulfills the mission of James L. Collins Catholic School by providing supervision over Kindergarten to 8th grade students in the cafeteria and while utilizing playground facilities. The Cafeteria/Recess Aide facilitates a Catholic atmosphere by applying behavioral policies within the framework of the school's philosophy and utilizing safety guidelines to maintain cafeteria and playground standards that ensure a safe, orderly, and nurturing environment.
Essential Duties of the
Position:
Establish and maintain cooperative and effective working relationships with all faculty and staff members as well as school and diocesan administration to promote positive relationships with students and parents
Participate in required training, faculty meetings, and professional development; and seek continual professional development opportunities to maintain best practices
Support and Abide by the Code of Conduct and all policies and procedures of the school and diocese as outlined in the Catholic Schools Office Handbook of Policies and Procedures for Elementary and Secondary Schools; Texas College of Catholic Bishops - Education Department (TCCB ED) Guide to Quality and Effectiveness, JLCCS Faculty & Staff Handbook, and Family Handbook, as applicable
Cultivate a spirit of consideration, courtesy, and gratitude
Communicate effectively in both written and verbal form within the school community between school administrators, faculty, staff, parents, students, and community members
Be punctual, present, and attentive at all duties, and demonstrate professional responsibility in enforcing diocesan and school policies and regulations at all times Perform all other duties and special projects as assigned by the school administration with a positive Christian spirit
Essential Responsibilities of the
Position:
Collaborate with Teachers to ensure behavioral expectations are met
Monitor the safety of students in a proactive way in the cafeteria and on the playground when students are using play equipment
Intervene when necessary between students to ensure that no one is physically hurt or bullied
Ensure that the school's health and safety rules are followed
Respond to emergency situations such as injuries or food allergies in a proactive manner Manage student movement in and out of the cafeteria, on and off the playground, and through the halls
Monitor students upon arrival and departure in the cafeteria and playground, including in the lunch line
Report any unruly behavior to school administration or homeroom teacher
Assist students during lunch to include opening and closing bags and/or containers
Ensure student responsibility for clean-up and orderliness, as well as assist cafeteria staff in cleaning spills
Strictly adhere to the time frame of the cafeteria/recess schedule as established by the school
Set expectations for appropriate table manners, including voice tone and volume Inform school administration and/or maintenance staff of any damages to school property, including cafeteria furniture and playground equipment, to ensure it is in good repair and safe to use
Education and Experience:
High School diploma or equivalent; required
Prior experience working with and supervising children preferred

Must meet annual faculty/staff development guidelines as set forth by the Diocese and school administration
Hours of employment would be from 10:30 am to 1:00 pm, Monday to Friday
Physical Requirements Specific to the
Job:
lift or carry classroom supplies, textbooks, furniture, and equipment to a maximum of 25 pounds
maintain composure and avoid inappropriate displays of emotion
sit, stand, bend, stoop, reach, grab, pull, hear, see, and speak on a daily basis
Monitor students in a variety of locations, including those with noise, activity, and inclement weather
