Supervised by and/or Reports to: Cafeteria Manager

General Responsibilities:

Supports the food service activities at assigned location with specific responsibilities for preparing and distributing food items. Provides complete and accurate documentation and audit trails for meals served and food items purchased. Maintains food service facilities in a safe and sanitary condition.

Essential Duties:

Assists in preparation of food items for student and staff consumption.

Arranges food and beverage items by placing them in steam tables, filling racks, and mobile carts for the purpose of making items available to students and staff.

Cleans utensils, equipment, and the storage, food preparation, and serving areas to maintain sanitary conditions.

Assists with the kitchen inventory of supplies.

Collects payments for food items from students and staff utilizing the POS (point of sale) system; utilizes cash handling skills.

Provides excellent customer service.

Inspects food items and work areas, checking hygiene and proper food temperatures to prevent food borne illnesses.

Provides kitchen operations training to new cafeteria workers.

Reviews dietary notes of students to determine food allergies.

Responds to inquiries of students and staff.

Complies with health and food safety regulations.

Performs other duties as requested.

Requisite Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Knowledge of food preparation, kitchen operations, and equipment.

Ability to read and follow recipe directions.

Ability to perform basic math functions.

Familiarity with health regulations and proper safe handling of food.

Ability to function well under pressure.

Maintain good personal hygiene.

Ability to maintain accurate records.

Ability to maintain good working relationships with students, parents, and staff.

Ability to stand for long periods of time.

Ability to lift approximately 50 pounds.

Serves as role model.

Requisite Education and Experience:

Must be able to read and communicate verbally and in writing. A minimum of one year of food preparation experience preferred.

Physical Requirements:

Must have the use of sensory skills in order to effectively communicate and interact with other employees and the public through the use of the telephone and personal contact as normally defined by the ability to see, read, talk, hear, handle or feel objects and controls. Physical capability to effectively use and operate various items of office related equipment, such as, but not limited to: a personal computer, calculator, copier, and fax machine. Some climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, or repetitive motions required.
