About the Role The Meat Manager is responsible for planning, directing, and managing the operations, quality, and performance of the Meat, Cremeria, and Pescaderia departments. This role drives sales and profitability while ensuring customer service excellence, compliance with Vallarta's standards, and the highest levels of food safety and sanitation.
What You'll Do Leadership & Supervision:
Act as a role model for employees, delegate tasks, enforce policies, and maintain high standards of customer service.
Customer Service:
Provide outstanding, prompt service while maintaining a clean, welcoming department.
Team Development:
Train, coach, evaluate, and recognize employees; enforce discipline when necessary; and recommend promotions.
Operations:
Manage schedules, inventory, invoices, and transfers. Conduct physical inventory every 4 weeks and maintain accurate records.
Product Quality:
Ensure consistency in quality, freshness, and presentation of meat and seafood products. Obtain approval for new items from the Meat Supervisor.
Merchandising:
Implement schematics, rotate and replenish product, maintain signage, and meet company merchandising standards.
Compliance & Safety:
Enforce Vallarta's Safety Program and health code regulations, correct unsafe acts immediately, and monitor employee dress and equipment use.
Sanitation:
Maintain overall cleanliness of the meat department, including prep areas, counters, coolers, and floors.
Auditing:
Audit pricing, weights, measures, and codes to ensure accuracy and compliance with state regulations.
Other Duties:
Attend meetings, support store leadership, and perform tasks as assigned. Physical Requirements Stand and walk constantly (6-8+ hours/day). Frequently bend, squat, twist, kneel, and reach above/below shoulders. Frequent hand use for simple grasping, power grasping, pushing, pulling, and fine manipulation. Lift and carry up to 25 lbs. frequently, up to 50 lbs. occasionally; heaviest item up to 65 lbs. (box), carried up to 100 feet (buddy system for heavier items). Operate cars, trucks, forklifts, and other moving equipment. Work near equipment and machinery; exposure to temperature and humidity changes. No work at heights required. What We're Looking For Strong knowledge of all types of meat, seafood, and cremeria products. Familiarity with equipment, machinery, and tools used in meat and seafood preparation. 3-5 years of retail meat department management experience preferred. Ability to lead, mentor, and coach employees in a fast-paced environment. Strong math, organizational, and problem-solving skills. Must successfully pass food safety certification every 3 years. Basic computer proficiency (Excel, Word). Strong communication skills and a professional, team-oriented attitude. Must be able to speak, read, write, and understand English. Must be able to transfer to other store locations within a reasonable commute. Must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. Work Environment Fast-paced retail meat and seafood setting with direct customer interaction. Exposure to perishable products, refrigerated coolers, prep areas, and changing conditions. Collaborative, team-focused workplace.
Must work flexible schedule:
