About Us We are a small family owned slaughterhouse and processing plant. We are a USDA federally inspected plant and have been operating since 1963. At Pohlman's we specialize in custom livestock processing, handling cattle, hogs, and sheep for our local farmers and customers. During deer season we also take in tagged deer and process those as well. Each animal that walks through our facility is processed specifically to either the farmers or customers needs. Job Overview Join our dynamic team as a Butcher and become a vital part of delivering high-quality, fresh meat products to our customers. As a butcher, you will slaughter, cut, and package a variety of meats, ensuring every product meets our strict standards for quality, safety, and presentation. Duties Perform humane slaughter and processing of livestock using specialized machines such as meat saws, grinders, and slicers to prepare cuts according to specifications Execute precise butchery techniques including trimming, meat cutting, slicing, and portioning to meet customer needs Maintain strict food safety sanitizing procedures throughout all stages of food handling and preparation Package products efficiently while ensuring accurate labeling and weight measurement using basic math skills Conduct visual inspections for quality control, checking for freshness, appearance, and signs of spoilage in perishable goods End of day clean up and sanitize all rooms, machines, and utensils used that day. Requirements At this time we offer on the job training and are not requiring any previous experience or knowledge. The more you learn throughout the processing plant the higher your pay goes maxing out at $18 an hour. There is some heavy lifting with this position that can range up to 250 pounds when moving the hindquarter of a beef to the saw. We do also humanly slaughter cows, pigs, and sheep and that is a messy job so you will need to be able to be around the blood without issues.
