Purpose of Position Gourmet Foods is looking for a dynamic, energetic Sous Chef to provide support and leadership for the Research and Development team. Assisting with maintaining quality standards and practices for all food development of the R D process. Position provides internal support across all departmental areas to facilitate and expedite the development of all R D opportunities with a specific focus on the travel and retail sectors. Develops standardized recipes and utilizes other production tools to ensure food quality and cost objectives are met with current and new recipe development. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Maintains customer relations and confidentiality with all development processes. Some travel may be required for customer cuttings and food shows. Completes projects by assigning work to R D associates and following up on results. Maintain and support all aspects of the R D department. Participate in customer meetings and product presentations. Coordinate, execute, and assist with industry-related events such as food shows, exhibits, etc. Adhere to timelines with all new product development requests and opportunities Quality control and sensory evaluation and procedure for recipes (spot check in productions) Be present for commercialization of product during first manufacturing run Following through with all product development requests Flexibility to travel periodically when required Work closely with production staff to train on existing and new items Perform other related duties and work on special projects as assigned Able to work in cold and wet production areas for extended periods of time The ability to appear for work on time The ability to follow directions from a supervisor The ability to interact well with co-workers (and customers, if applicable) The ability to understand and follow posted work rules and procedures The ability to accept constructive criticism Qualifications and Skills Capable of communicating orally and in written form Required proficiency in Microsoft Office Primarily in Excel, Word and Outlook. Basic mathematical skills Reporting Skills, Supply Management, Scheduling, Microsoft Office, Organization and Time Management A minimum of 3 years culinary apprenticeship and /or Culinary degree Research and Development experience preferred Food manufacturing experience preferred but not essential Working conditions/Physical requirements Cold and wet production areas; Hot kitchen environment Work an 8-hour shift and some overtime as needed Stand/Sit for extended periods of time Willingness to travel preferred
Pay:
$22.50 - $25.00 per hour
