The ideal candidate has culinary experience, experience working with youth, and the ability to lead engaging, organized, and positive hands-on classes. Position Overview This role is for someone who can do more than cook. We are looking for someone who can teach, connect with students, manage a group, and create a supportive learning environment while delivering Meals in Motion's culinary programming.
Responsibilities Deliver Culinary Classes:
Lead engaging, hands-on cooking classes for students of varying skill levels.
Hands-On Instruction:
Teach food preparation, basic cooking techniques, kitchen safety, sanitation, and other foundational culinary skills.
Mentorship and Guidance:
Encourage and support students as they build confidence, teamwork, and practical cooking skills.
Classroom Management:
Manage group dynamics effectively to maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive learning environment.
Program Delivery:
Follow pre-developed recipes, lesson plans, and class structure provided by Meals in Motion.
Professional Representation:
Represent Meals in Motion professionally with students, staff, families, and community partners.
Requirements Youth Teaching Experience:
Experience teaching, mentoring, coaching, or leading youth in schools, youth centers, camps, after-school programs, or similar settings.
Culinary Skills:
Culinary experience or strong hands-on cooking knowledge, with an understanding of basic kitchen operations.
Food Safety Knowledge:
Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, and safe food handling practices.
Communication Skills:
Ability to clearly explain instructions, engage students, and adapt to different learning styles.
Group Management:
Ability to manage classroom activities and keep students focused, involved, and safe.
Reliability:
Must be reliable, punctual, organized, and professional.
Transportation:
Must have reliable transportation to travel to program locations. Preferred Qualifications Food Handler Card, ServSafe, or other food safety certification. Experience working in schools, youth programs, nonprofit programs, or community-based education. Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus. Why Join Meals in Motion?
