Job Overview The Summer Event Chef is responsible for planning, preparing, and executing food service for weddings and special events throughout the summer season at Sunlight Mountain Resort. This position oversees all culinary aspects of assigned events, including menu preparation, food production, presentation, and kitchen operations to ensure a high-quality guest experience. The Summer Event Chef works a flexible schedule based on event needs, typically between Wednesday and Saturday, with additional days scheduled as necessary for event preparation, execution, and cleanup. Depending on the size and scope of the event, the Summer Event Chef may work independently or lead and coordinate a couple of back of house staff. This role requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, efficient time management, and the ability to perform well in a fast-paced event environment. The Summer Event Chef must maintain positive working relationships with all Food & Beverage team members and contribute to a collaborative, professional, and guest-focused culture. Essential Responsibilities Plan and prepare food for weddings, banquets, and special events. Coordinate food production timelines to ensure timely and efficient event execution. Prepare ingredients, recipes, and menu items according to established standards. Execute event meal service while maintaining quality, consistency, and presentation standards. Supervise and direct assigned cooks and prep staff during event preparation and service. Monitor food quality, portion control, and food costs. Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health department requirements. Maintain a clean, organized, and safe kitchen and food preparation area. Communicate effectively with event coordinators, management, and Food & Beverage staff regarding event needs and timelines. Responsible for ordering, inventory management, and product storage as needed. Support setup, breakdown, and cleanup of event food service operations. Foster positive teamwork and maintain professional relationships with all Food & Beverage employees. Qualifications Previous banquet, catering, restaurant, or event cooking experience preferred. Ability to independently manage food production for small and medium-sized events. Strong knowledge of food safety and sanitation practices. Ability to work flexible hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as required by event schedules. Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills. Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team. Current food safety certification preferred. Work Environment This position works primarily in commercial kitchen and banquet environments and requires standing for extended periods, lifting up to 50 pounds, and working in a fast-paced setting with changing priorities. Evening, weekend, and holiday work is regularly required based on event schedules. The Summer Event Chef must maintain a positive attitude and work cooperatively with all members of the Food & Beverage team to ensure successful events and exceptional guest experiences.
