Job Description

Position Type:
Full-Time; Ideally 8 am - 5 pm but flexible scheduling when appropriate
Salary:
Approximately $60,000.00 per year (commensurate with experience)
Start Date:
Immediate About the position: This is an opportunity to become well-versed and develop expertise in a specialized area. We are seeking a dedicated private chef to prepare safe, nutritious and appealing meals for a child with life-threatening, anaphylactic food allergies. This is a full-time, in-home role, ideal for a chef who is highly organized, detail-oriented, and passionate about working with children and specialized dietary needs. Please note that the family kitchen does not contain any of the child's allergens, and is thoughtfully organized and maintained to ensure there is no cross-contamination. The child is allergic to, amongst other things, dairy, eggs, shellfish, peanuts, and tree nuts.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan, prepare, and serve meals using recipes that have already been approved by the family Ensure strict avoidance of allergens and prevent cross-contamination at all times Grocery shop and/or utilize Instacart to source ingredients that are preapproved Ensure compliance with the three step rule of checking the ingredients on any items that are bought three times: 1) at the store, 2) prior to putting them away, and 3) prior to utilizing them Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen environment Read and interpret ingredient labels with extreme care Prepare meals in advance when needed, and empty and clean items upon child's return Maintain inventory of pantry items and kitchen supplies; order additional as necessary and with approval of family Assist in contacting manufacturers as necessary to protect against cross-contamination Developing additional recipes using the ingredients the child can safely consume We are looking for someone who will become a trusted and integral part of our household while ensuring our child's safety and well-being through thoughtful, careful meal preparation. Completion of a culinary program and/or certification Knowledge of cross-contamination prevention and food safety best practices The capability of committing to erring on the side of caution Prior experience as a private chef or personal chef is preferred Discreet, reliable, and professional demeanor Valid driver's license and reliable transportation
Ideal Candidate:
Is patient, flexible, and proactive Takes food safety seriously and understands the risks associated with allergies Enjoys working with children Is creative Enjoys creating fun, visually appealing meals for kids Communicates clearly and works well with parents Ability to work on some weekends on an as needed basis (likely no more than 6 individual weekend days per year) to assist with a family party, the family traveling, etc. Enjoys involving children in the cooking process (the child likes to participate at times, and this is not necessary, but is preferred)
