The pastry chef offers both skill and creativity in the kitchen and is also required to have managerial skills and effective communication skills since he or she will be responsible for introducing and teaching recipes and techniques to the staff. He or she must create a positive work environment, motivating and guiding the pastry team. Some of the responsibilities would be the following: o Identify staffing needs and help recruit and train personnel. o Guide, train and motivate pastry team to work more efficiently. o Monitor stocks for baking ingredients and make appropriate orders with budget. o Check quality of material and condition of equipment and devices for cooking, report all equipment problems and maintenance issues. o Maintain a clean and orderly cooking station and adhere safety standards to ensure compliance with food hygiene and health and safety standards. o Decorate pastries and ensure excellent quality of final product. o Create new desserts and renew menu. o Organize schedules and prepping lists. o Keep inventories updated. Conduct daily shift briefings.
