About Us Odyssey Charter School is a high performing school committed to providing nutritious, nutrient dense, scratch made meals to our students to support their long-term health and academic success. We are seeking a dedicated and organized School Food Service Chef to lead our cafeteria team in delivering exceptional food service in a safe and welcoming environment. Job Summary The School Food Service Chef will oversee the daily operations of meal planning is our scratch cook kitchen, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local nutrition and safety regulations. This role involves cooking all meals from scratch using high quality raw ingredients. Managing the flow of food from beginning to end, maintaining food quality, and fostering a positive dining experience for students and staff.
Key Responsibilities Food Production Management:
Assist management with supervising food preparation, food service, and cleanup to ensure efficient and sanitary operations.
Compliance:
Adhere to USDA National School Lunch/Breakfast Program guidelines, including portion control, nutritional standards, and food safety protocols (e.g., HACCP).
Inventory and Ordering:
Assist management with inventory, order supplies, and maintain accurate records for food and equipment.
Customer Service:
Engage with students, staff, and parents to promote healthy eating and address concerns.
Record Keeping:
Prepare required reports, including production documentation and participation metrics.
Qualifications Education:
High school diploma or GED required; associate's or bachelor's degree in nutrition, culinary arts, or related field preferred.
Experience:
Minimum of 2 years in food service with a focus on scratch cooking. School food service experience is a plus. Experience in High pace full-service kitchen is preferred.
Certifications:
Food Handler's Permit required; Qualified Food Operator (QFO) certification or ServSafe certification preferred.
Skills:
Strong leadership and organizational skills. Knowledge of quantity food preparation, sanitation, and nutrition. Basic computer literacy for inventory and reporting. Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and lift moderate weights (up to 50 lbs). Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Positive and upbeat personality with team building skills
Other:
Ability to pass a background check and meet physical demands of the role (standing for extended periods, operating kitchen equipment). Working Conditions Part of a dynamic school environment with daily interaction with students and staff.
Typical hours:
6:00 AM - 2:30 PM, Monday through Friday, following the school calendar. Exposure to kitchen equipment and moderate to heavy lifting. Benefits Competitive hourly wage.
