Job Description:

We are seeking a skilled, organized, and collaborative Sous Chef to join our Food & Beverage team at Doctor Sax House. The ideal candidate will support the Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations while maintaining high standards of food quality, cleanliness, and efficiency. This role is essential to ensuring a consistent and elevated culinary experience across café, lounge, and special event service. The Sous Chef will help lead the kitchen team, support menu execution, and contribute to a positive and professional kitchen culture.

Responsibilities:

Support the Chef in overseeing daily kitchen operations and ensuring smooth service execution. Assist with food preparation and production while maintaining high standards for quality and presentation. Supervise and support kitchen staff during service, providing guidance and direction as needed. Maintain consistency in recipes, portioning, and plating standards. Help coordinate prep schedules and service readiness for dinner, lounge, and event programming. Monitor inventory levels and assist with ordering, receiving, and proper storage of ingredients. Ensure compliance with all food safety, sanitation, and health regulations. Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient kitchen environment. Assist in training and mentoring kitchen team members. Support menu development and seasonal updates in collaboration with the Chef. Assist with execution of private events, performances, and special programming. Provide feedback to management where there are opportunities to improve kitchen operations and guest experience.

Qualifications:

Previous experience as a Sous Chef, Lead Line Cook, or similar supervisory kitchen role preferred. Strong knowledge of culinary techniques, kitchen operations, and food safety standards. Ability to lead a team in a calm, organized, and professional manner during service. Experience working in small, fast-paced kitchens with high attention to detail. Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, holidays, and special events as needed. Strong time management and multitasking skills. Interest in seasonal ingredients and thoughtful, guest-centered menu execution. ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain) preferred.
