Hand Roll Sushi Chef — Weddings & Private Events (Part-Time, Weekends)
Location:
Metro Detroit, MI (on-site at wedding venues and event spaces)
Schedule:
Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays — event-based

Competitive hourly rate + gratuities (based on experience) About the Role We're looking for a skilled hand roll sushi chef to headline live sushi stations at weddings and private events across metro Detroit. You'll roll temaki-style hand rolls to order in front of guests, so this role is equal parts craft and hospitality — your knife work, rice, and nori matter as much as your presence behind the station. What You'll Do Prepare and serve fresh hand rolls (temaki) live at wedding receptions and private events Handle event prep: rice cooking and seasoning, fish breakdown and slicing, mise en place for high-volume service Set up, maintain, and break down a clean, professional sushi station at each venue Engage warmly with guests while rolling to order at a steady pace (150-300+ guests per event) Uphold strict food safety and cold-chain standards for raw fish in a mobile/off-site setting Coordinate with event planners, caterers, and venue staff on timing and logistics What We're Looking For 2+ years of sushi experience, with strong hand roll / temaki technique Confident, personable presence — comfortable performing in front of a crowd ServSafe certification (or willingness to obtain before first event) Reliable weekend availability, including evenings Reliable transportation and willingness to travel to venues across metro Detroit Ability to stand for extended periods and lift up to 50 lbs (station equipment, coolers) Nice to Have Experience with off-site catering, live-action stations, or high-volume banquet service Experience training or leading a small station team Why Join Us Premium weekend-only schedule — keep your weekdays free Gratuities on top of hourly pay at upscale events Ground-floor opportunity with a growing hand roll concept — room to take on more events and leadership as we expand
