On the catering side of our business, we offer a high-end full-service event catering program, platters for pickup/delivery, and cheese & charcuterie grazing tables. On the market side, we prepare a weekly take-home dinner as well as premium freezer foods for purchase from our South Asheville storefront. This position would support both sides of the business and would be responsible for preparing a wide range of foods, including some items that are prepped each week as well as menu items for catering and take-home dinners that change week to week. Catering Chef Job Responsibilities:
Complete daily prep lists with focus and urgency; tasks to include chopping vegetables, cutting meat, and other meal prep. Communicate ingredient/supply/equipment needs. Coordinate and distribute any food allergy/dietary restriction information to customers and staff; maintain a meticulously organized prep area to prevent cross-contamination of potential allergens. Label and stock all ingredients on shelves so they are organized and easily accessible. Follow recipes and cooking instructions as needed. Undertake basic cooking duties, such as reducing sauces, roasting meats/vegetables, grilling meats, and operating a deep fryer. Prepare and package food for retail purchase. Maintain a clean and orderly kitchen by completing the opening and closing checklists Receive food deliveries; confirms accuracy and quality of food deliveries; ensures that all food and other items are stored properly and in an organized manner. Willingness to work as a team and contribute to a fun and positive kitchen culture. Occasionally ring up customers in the retail shop and interact with clients at offsite catering events Perform other kitchen and retail duties and cleaning tasks as assigned. This is a part-time paid position averaging 20-30 hours/week at a living wage. The wage range for this position is $22/hour (plus tips), and is eligible for overtime pay as required. This position includes health, dental, mental health, and employer-sponsored IRA benefits. This position would cover a Monday daytime prep shift every week, as well as evening and weekend events shifts that would change week to week. We typically do not work on Sundays. This position will also support off-site events that take place in the evening and on weekends. Prep Chef Qualifications /
Skills:
Thorough knowledge and understanding of health and safety rules in a kitchen Knowledge of and proven ability to execute of basic cooking techniques with a sense of urgency Exceptional organizational skills Patience Manual dexterity and advanced knife skills Communication and customer service skills Close attention to detail and motivation to produce high quality products and results Ability to work under pressure and adapt Ability to stand for an 8 hour shift (with breaks) and lift up to 40 pounds
Education and Experience Requirements:
High school diploma or equivalent is desirable Training from a culinary school is an asset ServeSafe/Always Food Safe Manager certification or willingness to become certified 3-5 years experience as a prep/line cook or private chef.
