Job Description

Executive Chef — Full-Service Catering Painted Plate Catering Greensboro, NC Full-time $65,000 - $80,000 / year Health, Dental, Vision, Retirement, 2 weeks PTO Painted Plate Catering has been the Triad's premier full-service caterer since 1992 — the team behind weddings at the Empire Room, corporate events across Greensboro, exclusive venue catering, and the high-stakes runs of High Point Furniture Market every spring and fall. We are looking for an Executive Chef who can lead our production kitchen and run the line at major off-premise events without missing a beat in either role. This is a hands-on leadership job. If your idea of a great week is one that splits between mentoring your team in the production kitchen and personally executing a 400-guest plated dinner at a Furniture Market client showroom, you are the chef we want to talk to. Who You Are You have built your career in catering, restaurants, or both. What matters most is that you understand what off-premise execution demands — logistics that have to be perfect, mise en place that travels in hotel pans, and a kitchen that is wherever the event happens to be. If you have full-service catering experience, that is a strong plus. If you are coming from a restaurant background and ready to bring that discipline to a catering operation, we want to talk to you too. You are a team builder, teaching Sous Chefs and Event Chefs, as well as prep and culinary staff through hands-on approaches. You focus on hiring and teaching those who want to learn, not to simply fill a role. You are hands-on. Attending a P&L meeting in the morning and conducting a private client tasting in the afternoon. When a high-end client books an event, you are at the tasting to ensure the client that your standards and their expectations meet. You are a delegator as well as a teacher, keeping your own tasks organized to meet deadlines while relying on your team to stay on track. What You'll Do Lead the production kitchen for off-premise catering, exclusive venue catering, and full Furniture Market production runs (spring and fall High Point Market are our biggest sustained efforts of the year — expect to be on site as a leader and, when the event calls for it, hands-on the line). Build and develop a culinary team of sous chefs, event chefs, and kitchen staff. Hire, onboard, train, and grow the people who will represent Painted Plate at every event we cater. Develop and refine menus for catering, exclusive venues, and delivery — keeping the standard high, the costs in line, and the recipes scalable. Own your cost centers. Food cost, labor cost, inventory controls, vendor relationships — you'll have the authority and the accountability. Coordinate with the General Manager, sales team, event managers, and operations team so events execute without surprises on either side. Maintain the highest food safety standards in the production facility and at every off-premise event we run. Be the calm in the room when something unexpected happens — and something always does. What We're Looking For Proven experience as an Executive Chef in a high-volume foodservice environment — full-service catering or restaurant background. Both welcome. Demonstrated track record building, leading, and retaining culinary teams.
Strong financial literacy:
P&L, food and labor cost management, inventory controls. Recipe development and standardization experience — you can write a recipe, scale it, cost it, and teach it. Ability and willingness to be on-site at off-premise events as a leader and, when needed, an active participant in execution. High-end clients and Furniture Market clients in particular require leadership presence on the ground. Strong organizational skills and the kind of communication that makes a team better, not louder. Comfortable with POS systems and Microsoft Office. Culinary degree or equivalent work history. What We Offer Base salary $65,000 - $80,000 commensurate with experience.
Full benefits:
health, dental, vision, retirement savings. Two weeks PTO after 90 days. A 30+ year-old, well-respected Triad business with a strong client base, an established team, and a real seat at the table for the chef who runs the kitchen. Limited travel — most work is local to Greensboro and the High Point market area. How to Apply Submit your resume through Indeed. A cover letter is welcome but not required. We are particularly interested in hearing about a specific event you led — what could have gone wrong, and how your team made sure it didn't. Painted Plate Catering is an equal opportunity employer.
