The Bier Stein is excited to announce an opening for a Sous Chef to join our leadership team. About Us The Bier Stein is a long-standing Eugene destination known for high-quality food, excellent service, and one of the largest craft beer selections in the region. We are committed to delivering consistent, well-executed dishes and creating a supportive, collaborative kitchen culture rooted in professionalism and respect. Position Overview We are seeking a Sous Chef who brings both culinary expertise and strong leadership. This role is critical in shaping the day-to-day performance of the kitchen, ensuring efficiency, maintaining high standards, and helping develop a reliable, well-trained team. As Sous Chef, you will work closely with the Head Chef and management team to oversee operations, drive consistency, and uphold our expectations around sanitation, ticket times, prep standards, and kitchen culture. What You'll Do Support the Head Chef in managing daily kitchen operations Lead and train line cooks, prep staff, and dish team members Uphold and enforce food safety, cleanliness, and kitchen organization standards Ensure efficient workflow, proper prep levels, and strong ticket times Maintain a positive, professional presence and lead by example Assist with scheduling, ordering, receiving, and inventory management Support menu development and recipe execution Be a stabilizing force during peak hours and a hands-on leader during slower times What We're Looking For 5+ years of professional culinary experience 2-3 years of kitchen leadership or sous chef experience Strong ability to coach, train, and motivate a team Exceptional organizational and time-management skills Proven ability to run an efficient line and maintain consistent standards Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset Ability to uphold a positive kitchen culture while holding staff accountable Must have a valid Driver's License, Food Handler's Card, OLCC Permit, and reliable transportation What We Offer Opportunities for professional growth within a respected, long-standing company A supportive leadership team committed to improving systems, training, and overall kitchen performance A stable, well-structured kitchen environment with strong communication between FOH and BOH This position starts at $22 per hour + Tips Why Join Us At The Bier Stein, we're ready to take our kitchen to the next level — and we're looking for a Sous Chef who can help lead that effort.
