Trackers Earth is hiring a Chuckwagon Chef & Outdoor Cooking Teacher for our overnight camp at our Sandy, Oregon site. This role leads our outdoor camp kitchen, prepares meals for 80+ campers and staff, manages vendor food orders, and teaches hands-on outdoor cooking as part of the overnight camp experience. Our kitchen is outdoors, practical, lively, and built around fire, teamwork, food safety, and real meals prepared in camp conditions. We are looking for someone with charismatic persona of a chuckwagon outdoor chef and who can cook for a group, stay organized, work well with students, and make meals part of the adventure. About the Role As the Chuckwagon Chef & Outdoor Cooking Teacher, you lead the food experience for overnight camp. You plan menus with support from the Site Supervisor, place vendor food orders, manage inventory, prepare meals, support food safety systems, and create memorable dinners that campers and staff look forward to. You also help campers contribute to the community. Guides support and supervise camper participation in our outdoor kitchen, while you help shape the food systems, kitchen routines, and outdoor cooking lessons that make the experience work.
Please Note:
This is a summer seasonal position, but Trackers is expanding its food service and cooking education programming. For the right person, this role may open the door to future year-round collaboration in outdoor cooking, food education, events, and hands-on culinary programs. Future opportunities depend on program needs, performance, availability, and mutual fit. About Trackers At Trackers, we help children feel like a group of kids wandering country backyards 100 years ago: independent, tired, muddy, and happy from the woods and wild. Kids grow through real skills, real responsibility, and a community that holds clear standards. Kids need to gain competence in order to find true independence in nature and contribute to families, future generations, and the land. Our overnight camps are built around outdoor adventure, wilderness skills, craft, teamwork, and shared service. Cooping meals is part of that culture and community building. The camp kitchen is not separate from the program , it is one of the places where kids learn responsibility, community, and practical competence. Why Join Us? Cook outdoors in a program built on high standards and serious fun. Make meals part of a real overnight camp adventure. Teach kids practical cooking, food care, and shared service. Work with a team that values outdoor skills, safety, and competence. Help build a food culture campers remember. Be part of future possibilities as Trackers expands cooking education and food programming. Who Do We Need? The ideal candidate may come from many backgrounds: camp cooking, restaurant kitchens, BBQ, catering, lodge or retreat cooking, farm education, outdoor education, homesteading, guiding, school food service, or youth programs. You do not need to be a restaurant executive chef, though we welcome that background. You do need to be a creative cook, organized food handler, and outdoor educator who enjoys building competence in young people. This role is a strong fit for someone who can feed a camp community, keep systems moving, and bring warmth, humor, and high standards to the outdoor kitchen.
