Shelter Supervisor Organization Overview The American Indian Community Development Corporation (AICDC) is a culturally rooted nonprofit organization dedicated to strengthening American Indian communities in the Twin Cities metro area. Founded in 1992, AICDC provides culturally unique initiatives, housing, and entrepreneurial programs that improve the lives and livelihoods of American Indian people. Through decades of service, AICDC has built strong, trusted relationships with Tribal Governments and community partners, working collaboratively to deliver respectful, community-driven services. Position Summary The Shelter Staff are responsible for supporting the daily operations of the shelter and ensuring a safe, welcoming, and respectful environment for clients and staff. Under the direction of the Supervisor, this role helps maintain efficient shelter operations while promoting dignity, safety, and community-centered care. This position may be part-time, with employees scheduled for up to 30 hours a week, based on business needs, or on an on-call basis. Essential Responsibilities Safety & Security Monitor and control access to the building using the front door security system in accordance with established protocols Observe security cameras and respond appropriately to incidents or concerns Document and report all incidents accurately and in a timely manner Coordinate emergency response services when needed Maintain a safe, orderly environment throughout the shelter Consistently enforce shelter rules, policies, and procedures Client Support & Intervention Provide effective, respectful intervention during conflicts between clients and/or staff Build and maintain professional, supportive relationships with residents Promote a peaceful, respectful communal living environment Treat all residents with dignity and respect Report client concerns and incidents to the Supervisor before the end of each shift Building Operations Report, log, and communicate all maintenance issues to the Supervisor Contact emergency responders for facility-related incidents when necessary Perform light/emergency janitorial duties to maintain cleanliness and safety Administrative & Team Support Participate in staff meetings and required trainings Support communication and collaboration among staff, property management, partners, and community stakeholders Perform other duties as assigned by the Supervisor Physical Requirements The physical requirements described below are representative of those required to perform the essential functions of this position. Mobility:
Ability to move throughout the facility for extended periods, including walking, standing, and responding quickly to different areas of the building
Lifting/Carrying:
Ability to lift and carry items such as supplies, personal belongings, or equipment (typically 25-50 pounds, occasionally more with assistance)
Pushing/Pulling:
Ability to move furniture, carts, or other equipment and assist with opening secured doors
Climbing:
Ability to climb and descend stairs (up to multiple flights) during routine duties or emergencies
Physical Intervention:
Ability to safely de-escalate or, when necessary and trained, participate in nonviolent crisis intervention techniques
Stooping/Kneeling/Bending:
