SUMMARY OF POSITION
The Resident Assistant is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of client services and house management within the Men's Shelter. This individual communicates effectively with staff and oversees clients and volunteers while working to maintain a clean, safe and healing environment for all.DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Key Result Area #1: Operations Ensure the management of the shelter remains in accordance with UGM and site-specific central policies and procedures. Train and supervise volunteers and desk staff throughout their shift; provide assistance with any high-level inquiries and decision-making.Retain accurate database information:
maintain reports and client information, update shift logs and communicate key information. Attend all required UGM and site-specific meetings and trainings. Complete components of the intake and exit process thoroughly. Exercise vigilance when interacting with clients; administer random urinalysis and Breathalyzer tests as assigned. Record all medications and over-the-counter, non-prescribed items checked in by clients. Organize and restock supplies in all areas of client services; complete RFM's as assigned. Provide over-the-counter medical calls as needed, evaluate medical emergencies in the absence of a medical coordinator and ensure patient medication is available 24/7. Approve job schedules for clients requesting accommodations. Participate in the outcome-based management process. Lead clients to self-evaluations as necessary. Complete other tasks as assigned by Client Services Manager. Key Result Area #2: Security Ensure facility is safe and secure by monitoring cameras and performing security checks as assigned. Verify alarms are set and doors are locked after hours. Maintain proactive awareness of clients and monitor their coming and going from the facility, exercise awareness of suspicious behavior. Confiscate weapons and paraphernalia and dispose of drugs. Perform room checks and car searches as needed. Hold healthy boundaries between clients, staff and volunteers. Ensure awareness of emergency evacuation. Notify leadership immediately following any violent or critical incidents. Key Result Area #3: Site Specific Ensure transient camps within 5 blocks of UGM are vacated. Provide direct supervision of the day room and lines during mealtimes. Evaluate Work Therapy residents once a month. Swing Shift Assist with Chapel duties, oversight, and coordination as assigned by Men's Chaplain. Operate clothing room from 3-4pm. Dinner visitors are checked in, tracked, informed, and supervised. Day Room is cleared of any remaining items and 24 hours holds are tagged and stored properly. Make rounds during chapel to ensure proper attendance. Coordinate with tours and volunteers as needed. Graveyard Shift Ensure record of accountability for "bag pulls" by guests is in place. Active member of the body of Christ, in accordance with the Union Gospel Mission Statement of Purpose, Statement of Vision and Statement of Faith. Strong Interpersonal skills- exercise compassion and discernment while modeling the teachings of Jesus Christ.

High school diploma/GED- required . Two years' experience working with homeless population
- preferred . Knowledge of chemical dependency addictions and process addictions

REQUIREMENT
Union Gospel Mission is a privately funded 501 (c)3 non-profit, evangelical Christian ministry. Be able and willing to share the Gospel and participate in all of the ministry activities of Union Gospel Mission. Subscribe to Union Gospel Mission Statement of Faith and Statement of Purpose upon hire and continuously while employed. Adhere to Union Gospel Mission Employee Handbook. This position requires a Confidentiality Statement. Job Expectations All Shifts Demonstrate consistent application of the Union Gospel Mission's Core Values in daily interactions and decision-making. Ensure that your assigned work is completed on time and meets the specified quality standards. Ask for help when needed. Demonstrate consistent application of employee and department policies and procedures. Check and respond to email and telephone communications. At the beginning of your shift, review all Shift Logs since your last shift. If two RAs are on shift, one should always be at the Day Desk. If one RA is on shift, at least 50% of your time should be spent at the Day Desk. Perform regular security checks throughout UGM campus at least 2 times per shift. Always conduct security checks with a radio and in teams of two. Encourage non-guests/non-residents on UGM property to come inside for services. If they don't want services refer them to another agency, provide them with a bus pass and ask them to leave. Check that only UGM registered vehicles are parked in the client parking lot and that men are not sleeping in their vehicles. Move smokers away from entrances and to the Smoke Pit. Always read Shift Log Reports at the beginning of shift. Ensure all client documentation is entered correctly into Waypoint by the end of shift. Ensure client's Waypoint notes and flags are checked for all visitors to maintain a safe environment. All incidents are clearly documented in Log Entry or Security Log and in incident report by the end of your shift. Incident reports are sent to proper authorities. Notify Supervisor immediately following all violent, critical incidents, and life threatening/building threatening emergencies. Document all people using transient camps or sleeping in cars in the Waypoint database and Flag for must meet with Staff. Confiscate weapons and paraphernalia, disposing of drugs according to UGM Policy. Proactively be aware of drug use symptoms and UA clients randomly as needed. Provide crisis management and Mental Health First Aid for mission residents as necessary. Day Shift (Work Therapy 5:00-11:00am) Open Day Room at 7:00am. Coordinate with clinics and other service providers and communicate schedules and announcements to the shelter. Ensure lunch visitors are checked in, tracked, informed of policies, and supervised between 11am-1pm. Coordinate with tours and volunteers as needed. Complete Basic Intakes as assigned. Verify all new check-in forms and database information. Check to see if men have checked "yes" to the sex offender question. IF YES, is level listed? Please note this in DOC form sent to Lead RA and in Waypoint. Level 3 sex offenders are not allowed to be checked in due to the presence of women and children in the facility. Check to see if guest has answered "yes" to questions pertaining to department of corrections. IF YES make sure the Officer Name and Number are listed in Waypoint. Send all "DOC" and sex offender information is emailed to the Lead RA. Be sure that there is correct information in each guest's Waypoint file. File check-in forms in new check-in folder. Bed Moves- Announce bed changes from floor to bunk, or top to bottom bunk, after breakfast.
