Non-Exempt Summary The Cook is responsible for assisting in the preparation and service of quality food to students in a quick and pleasant manner. To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills and abilities required. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform essential functions. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Prepare food according to a planned menu and tested, uniform recipes, and determine if the finished product is of best quality both in flavor and appearance before it is served. Report inferior quality of food or faulty equipment to the appropriate authority. Record all food requisitions from the storeroom. Relieve cashier as required. Perform assigned duties scheduled by the supervisor. Inform supervisor or director of food services of any job-related or safety concerns. Maintain a neat and clean personal appearance. Communicate with the students in a friendly and courteous manner. Lift up to ten pound containers, and open cans with a manual can opener. Unload and lift up to 50 pound food service items with both hands to shoulder level. Plan the preparation of all baked items and some cooked items. Assist with the daily cleaning of all kitchen equipment to ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions. Prepare and serves food, as directed by the supervisor and outlined on the provided menu. Clean equipment after each meal and stores unused food items in the proper manner. Keep food preparation and food storage areas in a clean, organized, and workable fashion at all times. Comply with all Riverview School Board of Education policies. Perform other duties as assigned by the head cook, director of food service and/or administration. Supervisory Duties None Qualifications Educational Experience Volume feeding or food service experience preferred Free from communicable disease Certificates, Licenses, Registrations ServSafe Sanitation and Safety Course Any certification established by the Health Department Skills and Abilities Language Read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence and memos written in English; write simple correspondence; communicate one on one and in small groups; and maintain appropriate relationships with students and coworkers. Computation Add, subtract multiply and divide and perform those operations using units of American money and weight, volume and distance measurements. Reasoning Comprehend and follow detailed but basic written or oral instructions; and solve simple problems with few variables in stable conditions. Technology Effectively operate a cash register. Physical Demands Frequently walk short distances; continuously stand; frequently bend or twist at the neck and torso; continuously grip; occasionally reach, stoop, kneel and crouch; frequently lift ten pounds and occasionally lift fifty pounds; and use close, distance and peripheral vision. Interpersonal Skills Maintain effective working relationships with students, co-workers, administrators and members of the community. Attendance Regular and consistent attendance is an essential function of this position.
